Howie411 Report post Posted August 4, 2010 Ran the Vehicle Health report today ( I try to do it once a month) and got the following error message about my breaks: "The icons below may be illuminated in your dash or console or may appear in your message center. The vehicle diagnostics indicate a parameter that is out of normal range or that a component has failed. Systems within your vehicle need prompt service and/or inspection.UrgentBrake Warning»What Should I Do? Check that the parking brake has been released. If the light remains on, the brake system should be inspected immediately. Contact your authorized dealer as soon as possible.WARNING: Driving a vehicle with the brake system warning light on is dangerous. A significant decrease in braking performance may occur. It will take you longer to stop the vehicle. Have the vehicle checked by your authorized dealer. Driving extended distances with the parking brake engaged can cause brake failure and the risk of personal injury.»What Is Happening? Indicates low brake fluid level or a brake system malfunction has been detected.»What Does This Warning Mean? Brake system warning light: To confirm the brake system warning light is functional, it will momentarily illuminate when the ignition is turned to the on position when the engine is not running, or in a position between on and start, or by applying the parking brake when the ignition is turned to the on position. If the brake system warning light does not illuminate at this time, seek service immediately from your authorized dealer.Illumination after releasing the parking brake indicates low brake fluid level or a brake system malfunction has been detected and the brake system should be inspected immediately. Contact your authorized dealer as soon as possible." Its weird though my dash doesn't have any warning lights on.
rpoffen Report post Posted August 4, 2010 Did you have the parking brake engaged when you ran the VHR? If so, you will get this message. Run the VHR without the parking brake engaged.
Howie411 Report post Posted August 4, 2010 Did you have the parking brake engaged when you ran the VHR? If so, you will get this message. Run the VHR without the parking brake engaged. Oh hmmm, it may have been. If that's the case it should be able to tell and not give a false warning.
Oman Report post Posted August 4, 2010 I think the manual states to run the VHR in park with your foot on the brake and no parking brake. It wants a known state so that it can test the sensors. If it wants that state then it is warning you that there is a sensor not reading properly (the parking brake sensor). Jon Oh hmmm, it may have been. If that's the case it should be able to tell and not give a false warning.

tmdata Report post Posted September 15, 2010 Thanks for the post guys. I just picked up my 2011 FFH last Thursday and have been having problems getting the cell phone to stay connected. To test the cell phone connection, I ran the Vehicle Health Report and got the same Brake error. I was parked in my garage with the parking brake set (normal for me). Ran the report again today, rolling down the highway and everything was fine. Could not find any comment in the manuals about not having the parking brake set while running the test. Did a search through all three PDF copies; 2011 Owner's Manual, 2011 Sync and 2011 Navigation manual and the only warning was to have the car running for at least 60 seconds. Some people have been having problems that are cured by turning off the cell blue-tooth, turning off the cell, turning everything on again (like a reboot). Sometimes you have to re-pair the cell with the SYNC. Welcome to the world of computer cars. My wife and I both have cells with mine the Sync primary. Sometimes when she goes out in the car, it pairs with mine in the living room on the other side of the garage wall instead of hers. It's hard to say whether the problem is really a problem or a logic misunderstanding. The TDI services will only work with the SYNC registered cell. Maybe the VHR is the same. A lot of things have to happen correctly; The blue-tooth connection, the cell reception, the phone dial to the services and their server being up and running.
