Gas Lid

Recommended Posts

I just purchased a used 2010 Fusion SE V6 and I love it!!

I did notice, however that it does not have a locking gas lid and that it doesn't seem very well attached. I've tried to feel around in there for a screw that may need to be tightened, but cannot seem to find one. Does anyone else have the same issue, or do you know a fix to it?

I understand that this is sort of obscure, but it's been bothering me.

Hi Solixo. :D This would be my recommendation; You have a brand new vehicle with a full Warranty. Instead messing with it yourself, take it in for proper diagnosis and repair. In this way, if the door or hinge/closing mechanism needs to be adjusted or replaced, it will be done correctly. And you don't take the chance of breaking something yourself. Either way, you will get a reliable answer and repair.

If you still want to try an fix it yourself, hopefully someone who has had a similar problem will reply, as I have not seen this problem mentioned in the past.

Let us know how you make out.

Good luck. :beerchug:

Ford makes what they call a locking plug, that goes down inside the gas tank filler opening. Sorry I'm at work, so I don't have access to the part number. Search Ford accessories.

Congrats on the purchase of your new Fusion! I love my Fusion, too.

I wish Ford would design in a lock on the fuel filler door. I have two recent model year Ford vehicles that do not have a locking door, and yet another vehicle I own from 1999 does, Does anyone know why Ford doesn't add the locking feature? My salesmen didn't know why.

A lot of stuff Ford dos that seems small to some people (no more telescoping wheel on the Focus) are cost cutting measures. If it seems small and like it might have only saved a coupleof bucks, if they would sell a million of those vehicles a year then they save a couple million dollars a year. One of the reason's no bailout money was taken IMO.

Not always the most popular answer but most seemingly small "oversights" were d/t saving some money.

Indeed especially for other country customer, we may not share this patriotic forgiveness...

There's not many thing I do not like in this car compared to my previous Camry but having a gas cap with some kind of plastic hook that you need to place by hand on a small bump is not a money saver, it's a customer cutter... And no door lock is kinda cheap, gas is +4$/Gal here...

Go to the dealer and get a locking plug for the gas tank. i did, it's about $20.
