iPhone 3GS SYNC problems after OS4 upgrade

Hey folks, just an FYI -

 

I upgraded my iPhone 3GS to OS 4 last night. Now SYNC is not recognizing it as a USB device. It worked mostly ok before the OS4 upgrade. After the upgrade it started to index in SYNC and then said USB disconnected. I tried deleting the phone in SYNC and re-pairing it but that didn't help.

 

I should have checked the syncmyride forums first. There seem to be some incompatibility issues SYNC and OS4.

There were some posts on the forums at syncmyride.com saying they fixed the dead USB port by pulling the SYNC module fuse, waiting a for a few minutes and then replacing the fuse.

 

I didn't want to pull the fuse with the car on. I pulled the fuse with the car off, then started the car, waited a few minutes. Shut the car off and replaced the fuse.

 

After that, I started the car and plugged the iPhone into the USB port and it was alive. It began indexing the songs and finished 1200+ songs within a few minutes.

 

It seems to be working the same as it did with iPhone OS 3.1.3. We'll see...

Hay confusion please run me through this one more time you just take the fuse out then start the car i was just trying to understand the full process of this becaues i am getting a new 2010 lincoln mkz and i am concerned my iphone wont work how has this been working for you.

I just want a clear rewrite of the steps because it seems some people let the car start their iphone through usb after reset and so on. I just want a clear map as to what has worked successfully as i am uncertain on whcih way to do this thanks a million.

If your iPhone has been updated to iOS4 then you will probably have some issues. If you still have an older version of the OS on your phone then you may not experience this.

 

I think there are several variations that will work. The main thing seems to be that you have to remove the fuse in order to reset things if the USB port becomes inoperative.

 

When this has happened to me (a few times now) I did this:

 

- pulled the fuse with the car off

-started the car, let run for about 3 minutes

-turned car off

-replaced fuse

-powerd off/on my iPhone

-plugged iPhone into the USB port

-started the car, let the iPhone finish indexing

 

Not sure if you can get access to the forums at syncmyride.com but there are a huge number of posts there that describe these iPhone and SYNC issues with iOS4.

 

Here is what Mike from the SYNC team posted there regarding "how-to" reset SYNC and the iPhone:

 

Update - The testing is still ongoing in order to validate the root cause of the recent USB disconnect concerns. The tips that you have provided have been reviewed, and with the help of the engineering team, here is the preferred order to troubleshoot some of the USB inoperative concerns mentioned here:

 

- Reset/reboot the Apple device

- Re-sync the device to your PC using iTunes. Preferably add or delete content in order to trigger a full index by SYNC when returning to your vehicle.

- Delete SYNC from the Bluetooth menu of the device.

- In the vehicle, perform a Master Reset through the SYNC menu (see SYNC Owner Guide Supplement for instructions. Note - All Bluetooth devices will be deleted from SYNC)

- Re-pair and connect the phone to SYNC. Once that is complete, attach USB cable and allow indexing to finish before using your device.

- If the USB port becomes inoperative repeatedly, a power reset of the SYNC module, which can be done by removing the fuse associated with SYNC for 3 minutes and reinserting, will restore it. NOTE - Please see your owner guide for instructions, the fuse may be called out as MGM or APIM in the owner guide.

Thanks so much i havent gotten my 58k mkz with every imaginable option and trust me if its not dont up to spec they will see hell before i sign the release documents. I am not jumping into this vehical if it is not working perfectly.

I just got my Iphone 4 today and synced it to my 010 Fusion Hybrid with Nav. All I did was delete out my old Samsung phone and touch new and when they saw each other I typed in the number into my Iphone and they connected right away. Asked me If I wanted to do the phone directory, said yes and about 2min. later that was done. Later that day wife decided she wanted a cell too but just a regular one, nothing fancy. Well I had left my Iphone on the table in kitchen about 25 feet away from where car was in garage. Went out started car to sync her new phone and what do you know, even at that distance it connected with my Iphone. Had to go inside and turn it off come back out and sync her new Samsung to the Hybrid. Chose mine as main phone and hers synced right up too. Did not have to do anything else. I have the latest and greatest software on my Hybrid, I believe 3.1 if memory hasn't failed. I expected to spend sometime at this project from what I read here but was pleasantly surprised when all went well. Matter of fact I spent more time trying to figure out what I had to change on the car so my music from the cell would play through the car. Didn't need it cause I have all the same music on a thumb drive plugged into the USB port but can't resist a challenge. So far all is well in Ford land. :headspin:

I've also noticed a long bluetooth range with my iPhone 3GS and the Fusion.

 

Just like you, I've gone out to move the car with the phone in the house and it starts streaming bluetooth audio.

 

It's encouraging that your iPhone 4 is working well with SYNC. I'm planning to get a new iPhone also.

I have the exact same problem in my 2010 Fusion SEL w Nav...

 

Please can you let me know the Fuse #?
