ninjasenses Report post Posted May 4, 2010 I recently purchased a 2010 fusion sport...the problem is the ugly badge the dealer put on the back. I want to take it off, I have been reading that a using a hair dryer to heat it up for a little , then running dental floss under it will take it right off. I have the black tuxedo paint so Im worried about messing it up and also if there is a difference in tone from it being in the sunlight. has anyone had any experience with this? Did you order the car from the factory, or buy it off the delaers lot? I NEVER let the dealer put any stickers/license plate holders etc. on my car. If I were you, I'd take the car to the dealers body shop and ask them to remove it, they have the tools/know how so it should be done right. 2010SEL Report post Posted May 4, 2010 If it is like most of them (decals) you may be able to peel it up with your fingernails. In any event, the warmer it is, the easier it will come off. There will be some residual adhesive left. Remove that with Goo-Gone or lighter fluid. Finish with the wax of your choice. And you don't have to worry about a color change. If it was on there for years, maybe. But not on a new car, especially not a black one.
danager Report post Posted May 4, 2010 If it is held on with foam tape (like the factory lettering) good old fashioned dental floss does the trick with no need for heat. I just removed the letters from my car last week, including the vinyl decal the dealer was so nice to install. The best mod out there IMO. I am never a fan of goo gone or lighter fluid - not to start a debate as I know some people have had great success. I actually cover the old adhesive with NuFinish polish and let it soak in a bit. Hit it with a clean cloth and the adhesive and foam residue come right off. With the UV stability of modern paint, it is very unlikely that there will be any lingering reminders of what used to be there. Have a good one!Dan

ninjasenses Report post Posted May 7, 2010 Just wanted to followup...first i cleaned around it, then i heated it up with a hair dryer for like a min and slowly took some dental floss underneath it it in a slow sawing motion. I was left with a lot of the sticky backing left thought that i slowly peeled off with my fingers. I cleaned it up with some goo gone and washed the excess off with water and the paint and clear coat wasnt damaged at all. If i had any advice it would be when you take the floss through it, try to stay as close to the body as you can so your not left with alot of excess of the backing. I also could have probably heated the edges a little more so it would have been more tender but thanks for all your help!!
