Can a Factory nav unit be installed after purchase?

I recently purchased a slightly used 2010 Fusion Sport with Sync but no Nav unit. As part of the purchase agreement, I negotiated that they agree to install a Ford Nav unit after purchase. At the time, I was told it was no problem, but when the time came to install the unit, I was told that they would need to install an aftermarket unit as the 2010 Fusions were a model that cannot have the Ford Unit Installed outside of the factory.

 

I realize the Pioneer unit has a few more bells and whistles, but I prefer the overall intergration of the Ford Unit.

 

So my question is - Is it true that 2010 Fusions can only have an aftermarket unit other than the Ford model installed if it rolled out of the factory without the Ford Nav Unit? This doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

Ouch... I wish I could tell everyone, car salesmen are like teenage boys on a date. They will tell you WHATEVER you want to hear to get what they want...

 

I couldn't tell you with much confidence how possible it is to get a factory unit installed, but my first instinct is like they said, it's a huge pain. I understalnd it replaces the radio and in some cases, does climate control? (Hybrid maybe?) And then will the Sync module (or whatever it is) currently installed be compatable? Are all the connectors the same? Etc, etc...

 

But I'm wasting space as when it gets down to it, I don't know for sure. But check this link,

I scanned through it, and it looks ugly.... Good luck though. I personally have a Garmin GPS which I like, but I can see how convenient a factory unit could be.

You can install a factory navigation unit in the Fusion under certain circumstances. The vehicle has to be an SEL, a Hybrid or a Sport. It must have Dual Zone, Automatic Climate Controls. Some of the Sports came with manual controls. Whoever does the install has to replace the radio, radio bezel, climate control module, radio & climate control buttons, steering wheel control buttons and add two, 2 wire harnesses for the SYNC. They will also have to remove a plastic support bar in your dash for the old radio. All in all it takes about a good installer about 1.5 hours to do the job.
