Grey Report post Posted April 17, 2010 there were a few days before March 31 that you could have ordered a 2011 FFH and still qualify for the $850 tax credit. Did anyone do it??????? For the rest of us FFH owners ---Did you get the correct tax credit? I got the full $3,400 and I am sorry I didn't order two at the time.

In addition, to qualify for the tax credit, the car has to be put into service before March 31st, so you would've had to order and take delivery before the deadline. The 'in service' date determines the tax year that you claim the credit. Ordering before March 31st would qualify for the credit.

Grey Report post Posted April 18, 2010 A retail customer could place an order with a dealership before 3/31/2010, even tho the dealership would have to wait until the order banks were open to place the order with Ford. A retial sales agreement dated befroe 3/31 would suffice. You buy from a dealership and that contro;s the "purchase date" and an order is considered a commitment to purchase for purposes of the tax credit. Filing for the credit on a 2011 FFH might raise a flag at the IRS, but your dated documents should permit you to prevail.
Kobra Kai Report post Posted April 19, 2010 So then if I bought my FFH on March 18, 2010, but have already filed my taxes, when will I get my $850.00? Will I have to wait to file my taxes next year?

rpreuss Report post Posted April 20, 2010 (edited) Not true, bought my FFH in January '10 and accountant took $850 on my 4/15 filing. That doesn't mean your accountant is right. :redcard: Check the instructions for IRS Form 8910 One of the requirements is that "You placed the vehicle in service during your tax year" Edited April 20, 2010 by rpreuss

jerrieric Report post Posted April 20, 2010 I thought that I would need to take it on next years 2010 filing. But then was thinking how would the gov't determine who would get the credit if the sales limit was reached. May be no limit on this like the Prius had. Well, if the gov't does not complain I will be all set. I ending up paying taxes this year anyway. Paying more with a penalty will not bankrupt me. I could have sworn I saw an article that I could claim it for the 4/15/10 filing. Must have been wrong.

It's only a problem if you get audited and even then it's just a matter of whether you get it this year or next year. They don't use tax returns for the hybrid sales numbers. The gov't sets the date limits based on sales data. The tax forms use the dates, not the actual sales limits.

According to the instruction for form 8910, the amount of the credit is based on the purchase date, and the date you put the car in service determines the tax year you file for the credit. According to the instructions, if you buy between 10/1/09 and 3/31/10, you qualify for $850.00. If you buy after 3/31/10, your credit is $0.00.

I was told that I would qualify for an $850 deduction based on my puchase on January 27th, 2010. Email from Dealer rep.:I have done some extra research since hearing back from my Ford Rep. He informed me that we (U.S.) had already surpassed the 60,000 unit mark in the last quarter of 2008. I have verified this to be true on IRS. Gov and have found additional information. In order to have received the full $3400 credit, the vehicle would have had to be purchased before April 1, 2009. For vehicles purchased on or after October 1, 2009 and on or before March 31, 2010 the credit will be 25% of the $3400 which is 850.00 according to the publication. I also found out that you would need an IRS form 8910 with your tax return but there is no actual form from Ford that will be needed. Perhaps this form applied to the first 60,000 vehicles sold? The form from the IRS which states the credit is IR-2009-42, April 16, 2009. Please feel free to contact me if you have any additional questions or concerns. Grey Report post Posted May 4, 2010 (edited) Unless you placed an order for a 2010 or 2011 FFH or MMilanH before 3/31/2010, there are no more tax credits for Ford Hybrid purchasers. Unfortunately, there will still be buyers that don'r realize they could qualify for the credit! I wish I had known what a great vehicle the FFH is and I would have ordered two when the credit was $3,400. Edited May 4, 2010 by Grey

I wish I had known what a great vehicle the FFH is and I would have ordered two when the credit was $3,400. Well in all fairness when I was looking in mid March 09 there were some very slim picking available. Most dealers had none and those that would have had some all wanted list or more. So any savings would have been negated. I found one on Ebay that was asking 2k over list and you pick it up in Kansas. Plus at that time we were dealing with an entirely new vehicle that sounded great but still had to prove itself. And it's done that handsomely. smr2112 Report post Posted May 5, 2010 And here is the final answer....I got my $1700 credit! His response after 1 hour on the phone with 2 different IRS agents to figure this out!My return is 50 pages long I think.... Did I or my accountant do something wrong in filing form 8910? Of course not. It was not that they denied it. They just failed to record it. First agent didn't understand it or how it worked. Had to walk her through the return. Then had to do the same with the second and took her to the additional form that gets filed and then she realized that the credit was hanging in limbo "unapplied". Amazing, huh? Most of those clerks probably never saw this form before in their careers...

There are hundreds of FFH/MMilanH (+FEH/MMarinerH) buyers out there that won't get the credit or will get the wrong amount. If only they had joined the forum!
