Peeling Paint on Bumper 2010

Hey Guys,

 

The paint on the front bumper of my 2010 has recently started to peel to the point where there are now 2 "larger than a quarter" sized black marks where the paint has peeled. This is happening on the narrow part of the bumper directly under the license plate. I'm certain that rock chips have started this problem but it is unacceptable for the paint to continue peeling after it has been chipped by everyday road debris.

 

I just want to get a feel if anyone else here has experienced this "defect" and if there's been any luck in getting Ford to replace/repaint the affected area(s).

Hi the_clem. :D What Ford will do depends on what the Dealer determines was the initial cause of the issue. And that is impossible for any of us to guess over the Internet. So the quicker you get your car to the Dealer for diagnosis, the better. The longer you wait, the more likely a paint issue may not be covered under Warranty (again, according to the determined cause).

 

Just as a friendly FYI (for anyone in the same situation): In the future, as soon as anyone determines they have any sort of issue with a vehicle still under Warranty, whether it be paint, other finish issues or anything else, just bring the car to the Dealer ASAP so it can be looked at. In reality, as opposed to asking others online "has anyone seen this...", "what should I do if...", "what will Ford do..." etc, just bring the car to the Dealer.

 

Bottom line: It is always safe to assume that anything we may experience has been experienced by someone else in the past before us. It's like the old saying, "It's all been done before". But it really does not matter either way if someone else has/has not seen the same problem. Taking the car to the Dealer as quickly as possible is the best course of action.

Your feedback is appreciated. I swung by the Ford dealer body shop on my way to work this morning. They took a few pictures, took down my information and sent it off to Ford to make a warranty claim. They said it should "most likely" be covered and that I'll be hearing back from them within the next few days.

 

I'll post when more information becomes available.

Here are a few pics to help explain the problem.. note that there are no dents, scratches from hitting a curb. I had applied touch up paint at one point but most of it has peeled off now

Just got confirmation from the Ford body shop that Ford will in fact cover this under a warranty claim. I'll be bringing it in on Monday the 26th.

 

So if anyone else has an issue like this don't touch it up! Bring it to the dealer! :headspin:

Keeping on topic. My car is still continuing to peel and Ford is not covering my loaner car because "loaner cars aren't covered under bodywork warranty claims". My Jeep is too easy to get broken into at work and I don't believe in the bus so I guess I'll be renting...

Ironically enough.. I'm dropping my car off at the Campbell Ford body shop after work today to get the repair done. However, I bought the car at Kanata Ford in the West end. What's your story about Campbell?

Hey bite your tongue Nick, living in Quebec does not make you French and what's wrong with 4 cylinders? I use my car like a third hand, I put allot of mileage on my car and a four driven properly can save you big bucks. I'm not a teen anymore, I wish I could afford a bigger motor, who nows ....one day.

 

About Campbell Ford, back in '92 I was on the market for an Aerostar XL mini van, I really needed a large mini van you see I have four daughters. And one is your age, her name is Laura and lives in Ottawa with her three sisters Sara, Melissa and Patricia, do you know them? So I drop by Campbell Ford. They tried to swindle me out of my manufacturer's rebate. Back in those years rebates were kind of new and rare. We did all the paper work and upon revision of the contract I didn't see any price reduction. So, obviously I asked about the rebate. The salesman brought me to the showroom and said look at the sign. So I did, and I said SO! He replies read the fine print at the bottom of the sign. It read " REBATE TO DEALER", guess what I told him. I said you have two and a half minutes to refund me my deposit "OR ELSE", he did. I ended up buying from Sterling Ford in Gloucester. Since then I tell my little story to everyone I know. I hope the guys at the body shop treat you right. Show some pics after the repairs. Ciao.
