Lincoln MKZ Hybrid

For those of you that didn't watch the webcast from the NYC auto show, Ford has unveiled the new Lincoln MKZ Hybrid. I know this had been suspected by some. What's everyone's opinion about this car? I know it's basically the same car as the Fusion and Milan...but I think it's nice that they are extending their hybrid platform to those that are set on a luxury setup.

I'm sure I couldn't afford one, but it is nice that FORD is doing it. They must think they can sell enough of them, to be worthwhile. It's all the same Assembly Plant, so it shouldn't be that difficult. :drop:

I could get my proximity key, and homelink, tightened gaps in the dashboard, a grab handle to close the trunklid, nicer stereo and maybe cooled seats?

 

Awesome! ...and I think Ford did a great job with the new MKZ interior. I think this is great news.

Tru-tru. Their stock is only up 426% from a year ago; $3.25 (30 Mar 09) - $13.86 (22 Mar 10).

A great idea! I'd strongly consider the MKZ Hybrid if the opportunity existed last June when I purchased the FFH.

 

Next up should be a nicely designed coupe. Ford will probably resist hybridizing the Mustang for many reasons.

Doubtful. The cost would be significant and with the Fusion/Milan/MKZ selling at a 29K/month pace as they did in March that would max out Hermosillo capacity which is just over 300K units. FWD midsized coupes just don't sell well. Ask Honda (Accord) and Toyota (Solara).

I think it was just a matter of time, as its all on the same platform. Glad to see the Fusion sales record as the catalyst for this launch. I would have bought the MKZ if it was available as a Hybrid, as I like their features like HID, LED tail lights, maybe memory seats, and more plush interior. However, the Fusion inteiror is pretty good, as I get lots of positive comments comparing it to European designs, and way better than what you find in most Japanese interiors in terms of design and quality of material.
