lolder Report post Posted January 21, 2010 (edited) Here's a book about the design of the first Prius. (http://www.chicagopriusgroup.com/resources/Prius_that_shook_world.pdf). It's 388 .pdf file pages. I skimmed the interesting parts in a few hours. It's fascinating and worth a look-see for you technical types. The Prius was an enormous undertaking. If Ford can keep up with Toyota they'll be lucky. The first Prius was primitive by today's standards but the theories are the same with all of today's series/parallel hybrids like the FFH. There were lots of module explosions and dead cars in the Prius development. You will really see the advanced technology that are in these vehicles. Hybrid sales are slow now with the current fuel prices and the economy but it's apparent that neither Ford or Toyota think that will last. They are technological wonders and hopefully not technological disasters. Everyone should keep a close eye on reliability and extended warranties.
