jeney Report post Posted January 20, 2010 If we order our new Fusion with the Nav system, will the GPS work with no Sirius...probably stupid question. Also, if we do not keep the Sirius subscription, will the radio still work for regular FM channels? Mainly want the system for the Navigation, watching DVD when pulled over resting, etc.. How do you update the maps on the installed Nav system?

How do you update the maps on the installed Nav system? Absolutely. You just won't get a Sirius tuner option on the radio. Everything else works normally. You must purchase updated map DVDs - and they're not cheap.
FtLewis2002 Report post Posted January 21, 2010 (edited) Absolutely. You just won't get a Sirius tuner option on the radio. Everything else works normally. You must purchase updated map DVDs - and they're not cheap. As you said, it will work fine and the maps aren't cheap...In an effort to alleviate any sticker shock in the future, I offer the following prices I paid on my 2 Nav systems... Map for Garmin = $69.00Map for Factory Nav = $199.99 (Must be plated in Gold) I will never buy a factory nav system again... Plus, they sent me the wrong map and argued with me, even though my receipt said NORTH AMERICA on it. I didn't look at it before loading it and it locked my system up and took tech support 2hrs to fix it, and another 2 weeks to get the right DVD. VERIFY the correct DVD before loading or you will wind up like I did. Edited January 21, 2010 by FtLewis2002
Howie411 Report post Posted January 21, 2010 I sent a 2 page complaint letter to Ford's CEO (snail mail) regarding the map updates and maps in general (old data on a 2010 car) this was almost 2 weeks ago, and no response yet. Next one I'm sending will be certified mail so I know they got it.

This is handled by private companies who get their information from the Feds, States, Counties, and cities and with the economy in the dump and all the governments laying off people updating their map databases I'm sure is on the very last page of important things to do. The Garmin maps are far more accurate from what I've noticed, and less than half the price for an update. I even popped the Garmin in my truck one day while I was running around doing some side work, and had a duel. The factory Nav tried to turn me down 2 wrong streets in one day. One had been closed for over a year and was on the Garmin, and the other was a dead end that had been that way for over 2 years and was on the Garmin, too! I'd updated my factory Nav a month or two earlier, and my Garmin was at LEAST 6 months old at the time. I know Colorado will move a street or block it off overnight, but that was ridiculous. I understand that and that was the gist of my letter. I said my 2 year old Garmin that uses Navteq maps too has roads that aren't on my 2010 car maps. Ford tells me to talk to Navteq and Navteq tells me to talk to Ford. No one seems to have a clue whats going on, so I'm skipping right to the top (I hope). That's the part I'm not understanding at ALL. It's the same company (NAVTEQ) that does the maps, and Ford's are out of date, but Garmin's are up to date. Ford's are more than double the cost of Garmin's, also. Garmin must have a really sweet deal with NAVTEQ. NAVTEQ's customer service really sucks too.
