12V battery charging question

Recommended Posts

No, the ICE recharges the high voltage battery (HVB) when the car is "on" (green car symbol). The HVB charges the 12 vdc battery with a DC to DC converter when the car is "on". Power only goes FROM the HVB TO 12 vdc battery. There is no alternator.

I know there is no alternator. Just wondered if the HVB only charged the battery when the ICE was charging the HVB. Thanks.

And to further clarify, the ICE does not have to be running for the DC to DC converter to be charging the 12 vdc system. If the car is "on" and you're not driving, the ICE will come on periodically to charge the HVB.
