No Startup Chime - Not all the Time Anyway

Recommended Posts

I have a feeling this is just me, but...

You know the standard Ford startup chime that the FFH makes when you turn the key?

Mine does not do this 100% of the time. About 50% of the time it is totally silent, but

green dash light is on and car is fine and no issue. Seems to happen after I have been

sitting in the car for 30 secs or so. When I just get in and start it's fine.

Everybody else's makes the chime 100% of the time right? Just wanted to

confirm. This isn't some sort of setting or something I can change somehow, is it?

Or related to volume I have the radio at...can't be.

I just noticed this a few days ago and thought I was going nuts.

I can see the dealer rolling their eyes when I bring it in for this one...

The chime only occurs when your seatbelt is not fastened. Could that be the problem?

Duh, of course that's what it is. It's a pretty tame chime and recently fiddling

with the radio, I started the car without my seatbelt that I always wear, so

I didn't make the association. This forum is turning me into an hybrid-chondriac!

Silent start means, silent, right? :banghead:

I figured that's what it was but I didn't want to insult you. It's such a pleasant tone - you don't really associate that with the seatbelt chime but we're all still learning. I didn't realize that you can't "start" the car in neutral - had to roll the car out of the carwash to put it into park.
