Things to do at the dealership when picking up vehicle

My MMH should be arriving at the dealership today or tomorrow, and I'm scrambling to get ready to take delivery. (Even though I've had plenty of time, there always seems to be lots to do at the last minute.)

 

Over the past four months (!) since I've placed my order, I've been reading all of the various discussions and issues of things the dealer has to adjust of fix.

 

Would those of you who already have your vehicle please suggest actions I should have my dealer undertake, or things I should make sure to address, before leaving the lot with the vehicle? (I know there has been some mention of certain tech service bulletins, etc.)

Always inspect the car in good daylight, go around it and look for scratches, repairs, bad paint, anything that later on the dealer will try to blame you for. Don't pick up your new vehicle at night, for the same obvious reasons. if the vehicle is backed in somewhere or hard to access, make the dealer move it. (Had that happen years ago because the dealer was hiding a flaw in the paint so he tried to make it hard to see as well.) You really should test drive the car you are taking delivery of too but the inspection is paramount before you sign anything. Make sure you get all of the manuals, owners manual, SYNC, NAV (if purchased) etc. if anything is spotted, get it in writing that it will be taken care of by your dealer. Never do anything by word of mouth or hand shake.

There shouldn't be any open TSB's on your vehicle. By the time the dealers are notified of a potential concern, they would have been addressed at the plant already.

 

Make sure you have all your manuals, floor mats and keyless entry code.

 

Look over the paint closely for scratches, dings, blimishes, areas with no clearcoat, etc.

 

If anything is missing or needs to be repaired, you will need to decide if you want to delay delivery until the issues are fixed, or get a "We Owe" document saying the dealership acknowledges they owe you the parts or the fix.

 

Have you decided on financing or are you paying cash? Have you checked interest rates with your credit union? Compare rates being offered.

 

If you think you might keep the vehicle for a long time, decide if you might want an Extended Service Plan. Get online pricing from one or more of the discounters selling Ford ESP so you can negotiate a fair price at closing. You can buy one later, but if you want it in your monthly payment, now is a good time to pruchase it.

 

Test drive the vehicle before you purchase it. The steering and brakes may feel a little different than other vehicles you have driven. Not a problem, just different.

 

There are so many features on the MMilanH that it will be difficult to digest all of it in one discussion with a salesperson. But, the manuals are good and there is a wealth of info here on the forum. Try to sync your phone while the salesperson is there as most have done it many times before.

I was wondering the same thing myself, here is what I did, walkaround (was lunchtime salesman was gone, wanted him there in case anything wrong) everything looked good, all manuals, keys, PIN (keyless entry) so then test drive, return to dealership look for any drips (other than from A/C) salesman returns, we finish up paperwork then I drive away happy as can be :)

not to hijack this thread completely but does the FFH have a traditional condenser-equipped air conditioning system ? Never seen mine drip (haven't looked closely for 'the drip')((a/c cools fine))

Yes it has a conventional "evaporator" and any humidity that condenses should run out under the vehicle. If the humidity is low or the drain hose is plugged, there may be no water running out.

 

The main difference with out FFH's is that the compressor is electrically driven, so the ICE doesn't need to be running to provide max. A/C cooling.

With all the conversation regarding DRLs, if you want them turned on, make that part of your purchase contract. Assuming there is no law against it in your area, they should be able to follow the TSB and turn them on.
