Power seat question

Recommended Posts

I just purchased a new 2009 Ford Fusion SE V6. It has the drivers side power seat. My question is, there are 3 drivers in the family for this car. All need different seat adjustments, so it is being adjusted several times a day for each persons preference, will this cause premature wear of the seat motor?

Hi sward. :D Premature wear? In general, no. It will simply cause the motor and track wear that using the power seat adjustments will cause.

Sort of hard to explain, but mechanically the bottom line is that the motors will last as long as they are going to last. If the seat needs to be adjusted for safe driving and comfort (all three drivers drive the car everyday?), then it needs to be adjusted. No sense in worrying about things we have no control over.

If you are that worried about it, your only options are not to adjust the seat, or purchase an ESP (Extended Service Plan) Warranty Contract. However, it would be foolish to spend the money on an Extended Warranty simply out of worry for the power seat motors. Just enjoy your new car.

Good luck with your new Fusion. :beerchug:

OK, thanks for the input. I feel a little better about it then. No wonder the family gave me funny looks when I brought this up

Doesn't the MKZ come with Easy Entry? That moves the seat back and forth everytime you get in the car, even if there's just one driver. If the motors are designed for that, then surely they can handle your situation.

The point was that if the MKZ easy entry moves the seat back and forth every time the car is started and it holds up ok then what you want to do should be no worse. Get it?
