Front bumber replacement

Recommended Posts

Back in the winter I hit a snowbank and cracked the bottom of the front bumber cover. I'm getting an aftermarket bumper cover from cross canada autobody and I was wondering if anyone has replaced there bumper before. Is it a big job? How long should it take? Can it be done in my driveway with simple hand tools? Thanks.

Hi bonedawg. :D Easy job. Can be done in the driveway. It is fastened by a bunch of screw type fasteners and a bunch of pushpin type fasteners. Anyone moderately handy with tools can do it.

And by the way in case you care: It is called a bumper, not a bumber.

Good luck. :beerchug:

Isnt too bad.. only hard thing is getting the snaps between the plastic bumper and the metal body...

1.unscrew 10 of the 12 7mm screws on the bottom that go around the bumper

2.take out the 3 snap caps on the front side of the wheel well (6x when u do left and right)

3.pop the hood take out the 2 screws (7mm?) and 2 snap caps attaching the top of the grill to the ridged glass filled black plastic

4. TRICKY part... :finger: :finger: starting at the wheel well take the 2 snaps out at the bottom of the tail light then move to next to which are 2 inches from each other and eventually make your way to the inverted one where instead of pushing the snap up.... u need to push it down

*step 4 is basicly impossible to show/teach *

BUT here is a movie of the snap caps.... that i had to mess with when putting in my new grill (had to take bumper off inorder to do so)

type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

hopefully that will help

Thanks for the detailed instructions and the video. I know it's a BUMPER it was a bummer when I cracked it though. It's a type o. How do you mount the front licence plate bracket? I live in Ontario where it's law to have a front plate.

I got my bumper from my local auto parts store. The company that makes it is called Cross Canada you can look it up at http://www.crosscanadaparts.com/. I got my bumper for $200 plus tax. It only took me a little over an hour to get the new bumper installed.

DO NOT PUT ANY AFTERMARKET BODY PART ON YOUR CAR. OEM fits better, trust me, I work for a body shop. AM parts dont line up and gaps wont fit right.

Oh I second that. I bought aftermarket, non OEM fenders and bumper cover for our 1995 Grand Marquis, and they do not line up correctly at all. I had to stretch the finder to get it close to alignment of the door, The gap over the cornering lens is way off, the bumper cover is missing the MERCURY lettering and has a line in it from the grill down. It was also a PITA to install, I would get one side lined up, the other would pop off, the pins didn't match properly into the fenders, and some of the holes were off. To get the grill to line up I had to use self tapping screws on the tabs to pull the cover up enough to make it match.
