Staves Report post Posted November 3, 2021 (edited) Just picked up a 2020 hybrid SE with 4500 miles on it. One of 4 identical dealer loaners. Didn't want black, so that left me with one option, this one ? Life changes, retiring early, crazy cost of gas here in CA, plus the fact that I got around $2K more than I paid for my gas loving Camaro 2.5yrs/14250 miles later. When will that happen again? Pocketed $28,800 difference after they paid off my $9600 loan. Yes used car prices suck as well and CA prices are often suckier than most. But this magnetic Fusion SE hybrid looked basically brand new in/out and drives like new. I had one a year ago as a rental when my Camaro was hit and being repaired and thought it was a nice car. Didn't think $24,200 ($26,289 OTD) was too horrible considering what else was out there for that price. Great car so far. Gas mileage is already a complete 180 compared to what I'm used to. Getting more than double than what I was. Comfortable, not fast obviously but fast enough and drives great. I've researched these as well. Tend to be pretty reliable and last quite a while. Sorry only the dealer photo for now but will update. I have no plans for the car except to maybe tint the windows. Thanks for reading! Cobra348 Report post Posted November 4, 2021 (edited) Gas prices are just now hitting $3.49 - $3.59 in my area (Central NY) ... and the increase was fast! The FFH is a solid car and I really have no real issues with the car (or my 2 prior ones) - just Ford. I posted this thread and it appears your car falls into the same category. There is a boatload of information on this forum ... take a look through things and by all means ask questions if this is your first exposure to a hybrid. I typically drive mine as I would a normal car except for an extended stopping distance and a couple other things. I don't hypermile ... too much effort for a retired guy. <shrug> You got a good price on that car and Magnetic is a very decent color. Welcome to the hybrid family! mwr Report post Posted November 4, 2021 I'm in California too (Northern), and yes gas prices are about $5. Which make me love my 2015 FFH even more ? I definitely agree with your "fast enough", which it really is.
Staves Report post Posted November 4, 2021 Thanks guys. Cobra, I think you’re off by a dollar. Yes, no badge on mine. But I’m actually glad I don’t have more than one hybrid badge. Drive mostly normal mode. Turn on eco for Hwy mostly or when really in the mood to go slow haha. Like the extra grunt of normal mode.

ACK! You're right on gas prices. Edited the orig post accordingly. As for the badging, if your rear end is crunched and the badge is not able to be seen, it is my understanding that any first responders will not know it's a hybrid. With the high voltage stuff - battery, etc - the handling of any fires would be different as I am understanding things. Not a thing that really affects us but could affect someone else ... and other hybrids have similar badging somewhere on their sides. And the rear end scenario can happen - even at highway speeds. As I was leaving Rochester NY eastbound on NY104, traffic came to a halt. Seems someone plowed into the rear end of another car and 1 lane and median had wreckers, EMT and so forth. Posted limit is 55 but I know many hit 65 or better in the area I was in. I want the badges if nothing else than to rub other drivers noses in the fact I get better mileage than they do - even in Winter. Status thing? Mine is better than yours thing? Dunno, but I take immense joy in not having to fill up as often as I used to. Edited November 7, 2021 by Cobra348
MeeLee Report post Posted November 24, 2021 The 2020 year model is the last one they've made. They're like luxury cars compared to the Prius. For 2021, Ford doesn't make the Fusion anymore. My 2ct: If you drive the car a bit, and charge up the battery, make sure it's not in eco mode, and push the pedal to the metal, it has nice pickup. Nothing too fancy, but fast enough. The electric motor (though only 40HP), has high torque, so it makes the car feel pretty fast (at least for a 0-30 to 0-45MPH time). With a full battery, the car will accelerate from 0-118MPH (car's top speed), in one run with both engine and motor at the same time, after which the battery will be depleted. I did wish they had equipped the Fusion Hybrid with the 80HP motor found in the Energy and Maverick, for an even better acceleration on the motor only from 30-45MPH, as the 40HP motor is kind of sluggish there; and the 40HP motor is great for wet roads, but it'll need quite some extra HP before wheel spin happens on dry pavement. The battery of the Maverick is smaller than the Fusion, and yet it has a bigger motor, and supports it just fine, so theoretically it should be possible to upgrade the motor to an 80HP one, so long the controller supports it. I bought my 2019 model in February, just before the chip shortage, and paid $15k for it (with 33k miles on). 6 months later the exact same car (same color, same year and model) was sold for $22k. The Fusion Hybrid came out originally at $24k. So you basically paid the new price for the car. Not saying you made a bad buy, but like you said, due to the shortage, everything is more expensive. Staves Report post Posted November 29, 2021 (edited) $24k price is not an accurate comparison. You’re quoting a price that never represented mine. Sticker/msrp on my ‘20 was $29k. You got a great price pre-pandemic. I paid more than I would have if the market was normal, maybe $4-5k more tops. But I also got $38400 for my ‘19 SS Camaro with 14500 miles on it. I paid $36k including tax and tags and fees in April 2019. A normal market I would have gotten $29k tops. Put LED low beams in yesterday. What a difference for $45. MeeLee Report post Posted December 1, 2021 LEDs was the first update I did on mine as well. Yes, the low beams are underwhelming on the fusions. I see you have a later model, due to the blacked out fog light cavities on the front bumper. Something I preferred on the older (2018 and before) models. They actually did a step backwards with this. The second upgrade I did, was mount a dashcam, and install (legal) tints. 24k was the initial starting price for the FFH, 2012 I believe.
Staves Report post Posted December 2, 2021 I may get tints. I usually do on all my cars but it doesn’t get crazy hot here and usually windows are down for me anyway. Yes I have the last year, 2020 per title of post. Just cracked 5k miles (bought with 4500). Love the car so far. Excellent mpg and just really easy to live with and comfortable to drive. My friend has a ‘19 Kia Niro hybrid and I drive it sometimes. I like the DCT transmission more but the Fusion feels considerably more plush and better seats.
