Missing Features from 2019/2020

Recommended Posts

There seems to be a lot of things missing from the 2020 over what I had on my 2013 Titanium. I have not crawled through the car completely but a quick look is:

- no 120 vac power

- 12v power ports in the console missing

- passive door lock sensors on the back door handles missing

- No hood insulator and other rubber trim pieces in the engine compartment.

- center console lid only has a deep compartment, the shallow compartment no longer there.

- it seems like the "A" pillar is not as FAT as my 2013 was which offers better visibility (this is a good thing)

- I am not sure, but I thought my 2013 had parking assistant sensors on the front bumper.

- going from memory, fit and finish on the 2020 is bad, even for a Ford.

- Auto parking feature is gone (never used the one I had on the 2013). I didn't trust it anyway.

The hood insulator could be self installed if the 2017 or earlier pads will fit and if there are holes in the same spots for the plastic retainers.

The console lid is a big deal for me. The two par lid exposing the shallow tray was great. The cavernous big compartment is useless without some way to organize the contents.

I am wondering how many of these items can be added just by purchasing some parts and installing there. Things like the 12v power ports in the console. There are cover plates where the power point use to be. I think there was an SD card there too for the Sync system.

Anyway, just a thought on how to get some of the useful features added back again.

Mark in N. Georgia.

I had a '17 SE before the current FFH.  I learned the insulator was missing BEFORE tradein, so simply detached it from the '17 and added it to the '20.  The unit and clips is about $165 plus tax thru the dealer.

You're right about the missing stuff and I agree the 2-use console was something very nice to have.  If you had the Park Assist on your prior car - or anything like that - then there are sensors missing from the front bumper.  They pretty much stripped the FFH for '19 and '20 models.  I use the 12v socket in the tray area under the center stack.  I only need one so it's not an issue for me.

All these things are true for the 2019 model as well. Paint job on the red 2019 se is plain horrible!

Also missing:

Foglights,

Interior under dashboard leds

Moonroof (don't care about it)

Chair vibration

Seat cool/heat

My bighest gripes are:

- No creep disable (car moves forward on electric in D mode)

- Steering wheel vibration is too late (lane departure system seems rather a penalty or punishment, than a warning system)

- Dashboard light isn't tuned for tinted windows (The daytime dash is too bright at minimum settings, and either it's too dark when the lights go on at dusk, or too bright at night).

I find myself most frustrated with the between dusk and night settings, due to a mandatory window tint in hot Florida, I find myself constantly adjusting the dash brightness.

- Highbeams are very narrow and focused. And without fog lights, it's hard to see the road on bad illuminated streets (especially with a mild tint).

- weak electric motor, low battery range. I would have wanted to see 20% more electric torque.

Possible if they added a capacitor pack, to run the motor in overvoltage longer.

- Adding a phev port on the hybrid should have been standard. Since the hybrid already has a charging system, all it needs is a 120v connector; allowing for a person to at least drive a mile on pure electric at the beginning of the day.

So sorry to hear that. The red  (Ruby Red) paint on my 2015 FFH (85K miles) is still looking great, and I don't do much of anything to it except run the car through a car wash once a week.

Is there a way to disable auto door lock feat?

I find it annoying to have to unlock the doors often on short trips.

I may not understand your question. My doors lock automatically when the car (2015 FFH) reaches a certain (low) speed, but when I stop and want to leave the car I just open the door; no need to unlock anything.

From the outside.

Auto lock just wears out the actuators and the unlock button.

I forget ... you bought this car used.  Am I right?  Because if you had looked at Ford DOT com pages for build and price all the missing stuff in the first list are on the Titanium trim line.

Creep disable - as far back as 1969 (my first automatic) if you took your foot off the brake creep started.  Nothing new on this issue.

Steering wheel vibration - my brother tells me that if you use the turn signals to show intent on lane changes the vibration does not happen.  He has a Platinum '18 FFH.  I never use the lane keep stuff - I use the turn signals as a warning.

Tint related - for those items, I can't comment as I live where tint is not really as necessary.

Electric drive - as far as I know, this was not designed to be a jackrabbit motor, but a smooth way to get to at least 20 MPH froma stop and as able, a smooth and quiet drive on the road.

PHEV port - if you wanted that, then the Energi is your go-to.  Although you will lose the trunk/rear seat passthru area, you would have a PHEV with a larger battery.

Color - take the car to a shop and have them strip and repaint to your satisfaction.

Huh.  I'm almost willing to put this in the Urban Legend area.  Had a 1989 Dodge Dynasty for 13 years - electric locks/unlock - and no lock failure ever.  Transmission finally pooped out but not the door locks.  The 2001 Neon was same way until it died at 228K miles.

After all this, why in hell did you buy it if you didn't like the color, lack of driving lights, etc?  I would have walked away even if it was free!

Also for the doors (particularly the rear doors) they have removed a couple of rubber seals.  I have a 2013 Fusion Hybrid SE and 2019 Fusion Hydrid Titanium and can't believe how cheap the doors sound when closing.  Investigating getting some aftermarket weather stripping  (Ebay or Amazon) and adding back in to see if it helps.  Also my 2013 had a much easier time staying in EV, even in Eco the 2019 won't hold EV as long or under same acceleration.  The 2013 also gets better MPG than 2019 (but in part could be do to the fact the 2013 rides on 17" while the 2019 on 18" wheels).

I've had a '15, then a '17 and now the '20.  Somewhere between '15 and '17 I swear they change how the EV mode and ICE work together.  There was a definite drop in MPG in '17.  I actually had to strain to hit mid-40s where it was easy to get 50+ in the '15.  Same driving style, routes, etc.

As far as staying in EV, I agree as well.  I'm lucky to get a mile on excellent surface in EV and I think it should be more.

Did not notice the weatherstripping issue ... but I rarely use the rear doors.
