Mileage suggestion

Hi I have a 2010 FFH with 150k. It appears to be running fine, but I’m getting only 30mpg on the dashboard gauge. Any suggestions as to what to check or do to improve the mileage? Thanks

It is a long thread but everything you need to know it there, need a dongle to attach to a laptop to your obdii port after you download Forscan software (free version is licensed for 2 months).  Not difficult or expensive to do and it makes it like it was pretty much when new IF you do this.

Thanks but I already had the update done. Or at least the dealer told me they did it. The car seems to cycle in and out of hybrid mode normally. I replaced the throttle a couple years ago. I was thinking maybe the upper o2 sensor or one of the coils or spark plugs? But really no idea. I’ll do an ecm reset when it warms up a bit To see if that helps.

How long have you owned the car? O2 sensors and spark plugs give messages if they're bad. Cold weather significantly lowers mileage. ECMs don't need to be reset. On level roads at 30mph with cruise control on and cabin warm does the car go in and out of EV about every 1/2 mile? That's normal. If not the software fix probably has not been done.

find someone near you and connect a device to obdii with forscan and verify what the dealer claimed they did is a fact.  I know someone who took their FFH to a dealer who claimed to set the date back, I connected with my laptop and changed it to 0, it said 9 when I checked it-that was 8 months ago and it is now getting 34mpg's and he does NOT drive with economy in mind.  Prior to resetting mine, I was getting around 29-30, since doing mine i'm back over 36mpg for the last 2400 miles.  He got charged $90 plus tax and is real unhappy.

 

I go the dealership about as often as I go the the hospital-when I have no choice.  This fix is easy enough to perform and verify.

Well I reset the ecu by shorting out the 12v battery cables after taking the neg off and I’m back to normal 36-40 mpg! Must have been a ghost in the machine. Thanks for your comments.
