Automatic Headlights

Does anyone know how to adjust the sensitivity of the automatic headlights?  I'd like mine to come on earlier at dusk or rainy days, but I cannot find any owner adjustment.

The sensor level to on/off the lights is preset and not adjustable that I know of.

The sensor itself does have I think 5 different levels, but none of it is user programmable.  If you really wanted to dig in and re-write software you could make an adjustment, but I wouldn't even know where to start on that.

My concern is that I recently discovered that the Daytime Running Lights only activate the headlamps, and do not provide any lights in the rear.  It took me six months of arguing with Ford Corporate back in 2010 to get the DRL activated, and I don't want to go through that again! I think I might have the only 2010 FFH in the U.S. with DRL.

DRL on all US cars are configured like that.  I think Canada might be different.  TBH, when there's been situations where I felt it important to have rear lights, I moved the switch.  <shrug>

DRLs in Canada (and the ones in the US when activated) have always been front only for the 30 years they've been regulated.  There aren't likely to be many situations in which the auto-lights don't come on automatically when you really need the rear lights on.  Note that the full headlights front and rear will come on when your windshield wipers are on.  And of course you can always turn the switch to on.

 

Plenty of 2010 Fusions were sold in the US to fleet customers with DRLs turned on and plenty of dealers will gladly turn them on, though plenty of others seem to not be interested in doing it.

Ahhh.  For some reason I had the impression Canada had implemented differently.  I stand corrected.

In Canada the DRLs must be on all of the time.  There can't be a provision to turn them off.

I wish it was like that here.  <shakes head>  Some really hard to see vehicles are out there.
