If I remove this ...

Recommended Posts

Will it cause problems? This screw is preventing me from installing the donut spare as it's just long enough to keep the tire from seating properly on the assembly box. This pic shows what it looks like when the mobility kit is in.

It appears to be one of several fasteners holding the battery box together. There is one to the right and the fan housing is to the left where that strap-like thing is. Help appreciated!

Since the spare was a drop-fit in the '17 I can only assume that once again, some changes have been made that rain on my parade. This is getting ridiculous.

Can you just flip the screw upside down and add a nut on the top side?

It's a self-tapper I think - it's got a pretty sharp point on it. Flipping it might screw up the threading. I guess I could give it a shot, tho.

If it's threaded into the bottom part, then screwing up the threads won't matter, since you'll need to add a nut on the top anyway.

Tried it without a nut to see. The end sticks too far up and interferes with the placement of the battery cover. With that out of kilter the trunk bottom piece doesn't fit well. <sigh> I think I'll just take it out, bag it and then put the donut in. time comes to get rid of the car I can then reinsert it and alls well. <shrug>

Thanks!

When I get the time I'm gonna take it out. I busted open my knuckle jerking around with it the other day. Soon as that's healed enough, out comes that damn screw.
