Ford Fusion Hybrids with SYNC 2 Push Nav workaround?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Here is the situation... Traded my older MKX in that had and older Sync with Nav built into it for a Ford Fusion Hybrid.

I found the FFH I wanted with all the bells and whistles I wanted minus Nav being built in. I was sold on the ford turn by turn Nav via their service. As we all know ford dropped said service and now I feel a bit pissed off for not ordering the Nav built into the vehicle.

I've done some and if I want to maintain the interface of My Ford Touch w/Sync I'm basically forced to replace the infotainment system with a Sync2/3 w/nav cloned module.

Now I also have found a few threads that basically say the unit already has all the component parts for Nav and that there is a way to flash the firmware to unlock the nav. I don't exactly trust these post as I haven't been able to find any how toos, or any real proof that this is a thing.

Has anybody looked into this?

That is a no brainer however its not the question being asked.

This is what I've found but wanted to see if anybody else has seen or heard of any other methods.

I don't mind doing this stuff but would like to see what else is out there for mods.

It is true that all the components are there for Nav and it's just a software update. It's also true that Ford does not support that conversion so anything you do to enable the Nav is illegal and violating copyright laws.

As an engineer I can see can see the argument for and against these protections... SMH...

Also found this vendor who sells your pop in pop out modules with all the programing already done for you. You provide the VIN and they pre program it for you. Core rebate of $50 and 1 year protection plan.

I see they do upgrades to Sync 2 w/Nav - module or Sync 3 w/Nav for the 2016 models. Huge $$$ difference between the two though.

Mulling this option..

Aquidneck,

I was interested in the 4dtech conversion, but they state I will lose my park assist functionality. I found your link in the 3rd post above very interesting as they have a link off of that for how to program to get Park Assist and other Park Assist features. I wonder why 4dtech has not incorporated that capability in what they are selling.

I think someone on this forum has done the conversion, at least I remember them posting about it.

I would think its a profit thing. They cracked XYZ on everything else and they kind of said screw it after that. Since they are taking cores back for $50 bucks I imagine they are running a quick script to reprogram them all... So its more of a lazy thing.

The 3rd link is the more hands on however you get exactly what your looking for... but your stuck sourcing all your parts one by one.. That would be a bit much for some.
