2017 FFH Fuel tank capacity

Recommended Posts

I somewhat doubt Ford's stated fuel tank capacity of 14 gallons. I believe it's closer to 13.0 tor 13.5 gallons. Any comments?

From my 2013 Owner's Manual

Energi fuel tank 14 gal (53L)

Hybrid fuel tank 13.5 gal (51.1L)

As discussed here before, the FFH fuel tank is artificially restricted to meet the EPA weight class. So if you really wanted to, you could cram in at least 15 gallons.

But the number 14 is the number of gallons that fit from empty until the restrictor valve is triggered. There's nothing to doubt, it's pretty basic math. Now in the real world what you'll see is that you never run it to empty, even if you actually "run out" of fuel there's probably still some left in the tank that isn't picked up. So unless you're crazy like pt you'll never put 14 gallons in at the pump, but that doesn't mean it's not a real number.

Here is the thread on tank size: http://fordfusionhybridforum.com/topic/9610-ffh-has-a-141gal-fuel-tank/page-1

I think the most interesting thing was that there was 1.7 gallons usable after 0 miles to empty on Smart Gauge. I'm guessing most members never put in more than 12 gallons, which means they leave another 100 miles in the tank. I'm guessing very few members have run out of gas if any. CMAX is like around 1 gallon at 0 miles to empty. :)
