ski_rush Report post Posted February 10, 2008 I have leather seats in my SE and it did not come with heated seats :( I saw a heated sit kit on ebay for under $100...did any install a similar kit? They say I will of course have to take the seats out completely and take the leather off of the seat to intall the heating element underneath...how much of a pain is this. I'm mechanically inclined a bit, but am I biting of more than an average guy can chew? -sr
Ozzie Report post Posted April 13, 2008 If you are refering to this kit http://www.bestleatherkits.com/Heaters.html. There was a person on one of the Jeep or off-road forums I read, bragging about how cool they were and how relativly easy they were to install. Sorry I can't remember which one though. I was looking into leather for my SEL and heaters. Good Luck,Oz

I am probably too late, as by now you either did it, or decided not to, but here goes: It can be a real pain to upholster seats. Essentially, you will be "un-upholstering", then re-upholstering yours. There are some specialized tools that come in handy, such as hog-ring pliers and hog-rings, etc etc. Considering the fact that your car is relatively new and I am assuming you would like to keep it looking that way, I personally would not try this as a first time project on my own. If you have a friend/friends who has done upholstery work before, you might try it with their help. I would just hate to see you damage something by accident/inexperience. By the way, yes I have done do-it-yourself leather re-upholstery work in the past, but I would never do it on a new car. Well, not on my own, or the new car of anyone I wanted to stay friends with! :hysterical: Whatever you decide to do (or already did), good luck. :beerchug:
R3DALRT Report post Posted May 23, 2009 why couldn't one use the cloth seats? From what I know, it really wouldn't hurt? Anybody out there put in the factory heaters on cloth inserts/full cloth seats? I have an 08 SE Sprt Apr Pkg featuring the cloth inserts and, I don't see why this couldn't be done. It would cost around $200 per side from what I have priced at Fordparts.com
Mercury Milan Report post Posted May 23, 2009 It's not just a matter of adding 'heaters' in the seat, there are also other modules. Plus you'd have to rewire the HVAC-DATC.
danager Report post Posted September 23, 2009 It's not just a matter of adding 'heaters' in the seat, there are also other modules. Plus you'd have to rewire the HVAC-DATC. As far as adding heated seats, the parts are easy, and they are relatively inexpensive. The hog rings are a different story. Installing on cloth is easier than leather. The leather is more difficult to peel off, and then put back on. A steamer will make the process a little easier. The hog rings and pliers can be purchased online, and at most upholstery shops. The job looks intimidating, and the first time proves quite difficult. The reward is sweet though.
