mwr Report post Posted May 4, 2018 look at your tread to see if there is less tread at the edges than the center, if so raise it up to 50 psi. Didn't you say that backwards? My "tire guy" said that low tire pressure would cause the outside to wear faster than the inside, which is what happened to my first set of Michelins. I then increased the tire pressure. billford Report post Posted May 29, 2018 Since you like tinkering with mpg's, have you tried experimenting with a warm air intake?Since warm air is less dense, less fuel will be required, but you will also get less power as a result. All you really have to do is to remove the cold air intake duct from the air cleaner box, so the engine will draw in warm underhood air. I haven't tried this because I have not been driving much lately, but I'd like to see if it makes any difference in mpg's.
ptjones Report post Posted May 30, 2018 The ECM monitors Intake air temp so I'm not sure it would make a difference. Paul
ethermion Report post Posted May 30, 2018 The ECM monitors Intake air temp so I'm not sure it would make a difference. PaulYup. The ECU will just open the throttle wider to get the air it wants. Modern cars are too smart for simple tricks like this. Warm air intake will just cut your top end power. Cold air intake will only increase (a bit) your top end power. In normal driving, especially a hybrid, it is nothing but conversation. With Elvis in mind, if you want a little less conversation and little more action, you should look elsewhere. ptjones Report post Posted June 15, 2018 You Tube views are up to 8232 now. My Life Time Score just went up to 49.9mpg and my Fuelly for the last 10 fillups with a trip to NY and Austin, TX is 55 mpg. This shows what kind of gas mileage you can get if you use the info from My 3 You Tube videos plus the warmer temps. Paul
Peter Davio Report post Posted July 15, 2018 One reminder that if you are stopped for any extended period of time, waiting on long signal, train crossing, drive through etc. even though the ICE stops at least shift into Park or better yet turn off car. Remember you are using power from HVB to keep things going which will bring the MPG's down. With a ScanGuageII you can watch it go down.YouTube views are up to 2237 now . PaulThank you for finally mentioning what that dash/steering column mounted monitor was - seriously considering that, and the aero mods you have applied to your CMAX for my FFH. That - and finally putting Michelin's on it. No more Eagle LS for me. 135,000 miles with a lifetime mileage at 42.1 isn't bad... but damn - 56? 1 ptjones reacted to this

md13ffhguy Report post Posted July 15, 2018 135,000 miles with a lifetime mileage at 42.1 isn't bad... but damn - 56? I doubt anyone has a lifetime average of 56 in a FFH. Currently, he's at 48.9 per his Fuelly log (in a C-Max, BTW), which is still pretty darn good.

md13ffhguy Report post Posted July 15, 2018 That's normal for an interstate trip. There is no break-in period for the car, only the driver. I beg to differ. My 2018 is my third FFH, and during my first ~2k miles, I was a little concerned that perhaps efficiency had dropped compared to my 2013 and my wife's 2014. After that initial period, MPGs steadily and noticeably improved. 1 ptjones reacted to this
Fission Report post Posted July 17, 2018 Over the years I’ve seen retreads come flying off of semi tires a few times... I will never draft because of that. A few dollars saved is not worth it to me. 1 Bce3 reacted to this
ptjones Report post Posted July 17, 2018 I don't follow that close, about 100 ft. back. :) You are fooling yourself if you think you can be far enough back or away from a Semi when a tire explodes. They go every ware, there are no safe places, you need to be constantly watching in front of you for hazards on the road. I have never run over a tire, pieces but not a tire. :) I have seen a Semi Trailer loose two tires at once and debris went everywhere covering all 4 lanes of the FWY. All you could do was drive around the big pieces. I can't emphasize enough that you need to be aware of what's going on in front of you at all times. :shift: Paul

You will need to get back into EV to increase spacing until it's time to accelerate in ICE again. :) BTW My You Tube video views are upto 9012. :yahoo: Paul Edited July 17, 2018 by ptjones
ptjones Report post Posted July 30, 2018 (edited) I have a iphone pic of one of my Michelin tires with 76k miles on it. There is about 1/32 difference between inside with the least and outside with the most tread. The center is in between, the handling is better than 38 psi. and tires don't squeal going around sharp corners. My experience is the inside wears faster because of factory alignment settings. I think this is the best wear pattern you can get with factory alignment settings and this was with 50 psi tire pressure. :) BTW You Tube views are up to 10k now. :) Paul Edited July 30, 2018 by ptjones
