SteveBoston Report post Posted March 29, 2017 Just bought a 2017 Fusion Energi last week. Things are going very well. Cold in the northeast but am getting 16-19 EV miles. Was wondering about the "Gasoline Range" value. When I picked up the car with 20 miles on it the gasoline range read 271 miles with a full tank of gas. I was expecting something in the 500's. My last car calculated this dynamically based on average fuel use over some recenttime span multiplied by gallons in tank. So the Fusion must be doing something different. I assume that when I fill up the tank (maybe never, ha ha) the value will change? Does anyone know exactly how Ford calculates the value.I am at 168 miles and have used probably not even one gallon. Thanks
Waldo Report post Posted March 30, 2017 It is exactly as you understand, if calculates based on recent average fuel economy. But if your car is new, there is no recent data in there except for a bunch of time sitting on the assembly line and some default programmed values that never seem to be very accurate. So wait until the second or third tank before that number more closely matches your reality. 1 ptjones reacted to this
rowekmr Report post Posted April 11, 2017 Congrats! What was the temps when you were getting 16-19 miles. During this last winter my gauge would read 13 miles at full charge and I would get a few more but only driving without heat
SteveBoston Report post Posted April 12, 2017 I used the heat sparingly. The temps were 30-40's. Now I am getting 25 EV miles with temps 50+. Gas range is still low but fluctuating so I think it's trying to determine correct range. FYI I ran some calculations and found that the car is using 33.625 kW per gallon of gas. Also my 22 cents per kW makes gas cheaper which most people on the forum know. This doesn't include charging inefficiencies soit's even worse. I didn't buy the car to save a lot of money as I don't drive that much. It's awesome to drive electric.
MeeLee Report post Posted March 17, 2021 The car takes the first few miles charging the battery, which makes MPG drop pretty bad. My first readout was like 21MPG. It gradually increased to 41, as I drove it more often. I've only done short trips. Longer trips should net better MPG.
