Fusion Hybrid 2016 - 0W-20, 5W-20... Does it matter?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I brought my 2016 Ford Fusion Hybrid to a dealership for an oil change (20K). On the invoice it said X0-5W20-QSP. I asked the service guy why they used 5W20 synthetic blend instead of 0W20 synthetic blend as recommended and stated in the manual, he said they used 0W20 but put the wrong thing on the invoice (and he saw the mechanic put in 0W20). I doubt it that he saw it but I hope the mechanic who actually did the job knew what was supposed to go in a FFH 2016.

My question is Does it matter if it is 5W20 or 0W20? I know that 0W20 flows more freely in the cold. Does this affect my engine in bad way beside reducing MPG a little bit if any?

Thanks for your expertise...

I appreciate your concern and it would likely bother me,too. Just keep an eye on it as the weather will be colder for the months before your next change. I doubt that any negative effects will be noticed. Keep on enjoying your FFH,

There's an oil change thread on here that discusses just this issue. In the end, it hardly matters much, but the 0W20 is recommended. I'd just roll with it until the next scheduled change.

Thank you, guys, for your opinions. I just hope the mechanic went with what said on the oil fill cap (SAE-0W20) and put in the right oil as what he routinely does everyday.

I have never been to a bay and don't know how they work but I don't think they would look on a paper to see what type of oil they should put in.

The oil cap on my 2013 says 5W-20. As far as I know the engine has not been redesigned since 2013.

My 2015 owners manual states:

"You can use 5W-20 oil if 0W-20 oil is not available."

5W-20 is what I use for every oil change. It is fine and approved for use in the FFH.

Thank you, everyone, for your input. You made me feel better. Still I expect my local dealership to do a better job than this.
