My thoughts on a 2016 SE so far...

Recommended Posts

I have a rental and here's a few thoughts...

1. Cruise Control - WHY do some manufacturers make you turn ON cruise every time you want to use it? My Malibu has a toggle ON/OFF switch which is how it should be. I use cruise quite a bit during my travels and this becomes annoying right off the bat for me. Not a deal breaker but kinda important.

2. Doesn't feel very powerful but I expect that, it's a 4 banger, I get it but....again, the Malibu has more response and power and it's noticeable. Not promoting a Malibu, just explaining what I drive and for a comparison on similar class sedans.

3. Lighter adapter way.... back in the under console which basically negates using most adapters for cell phone brackets/holders. Not a fan of the middle dash area. Everything seems too far away for practical conveniences.

4. Looks - Awesome. For the money the Fusion has a very classy and edgy style. I am driving the dark grey color. Looks nice!

5. Ride - Nothing out of the ordinary. The Malibu is slightly smoother I think.

I'll update this post as I drive it. I may have it for three more days or more.

Not bashing this car, don't get me wrong! I probably will buy one when the time comes but I just wanted to share opinions. :)

Re. 2 I live with very twisty, very hilly 2 lane roads with very short available passing spaces. I find the acceleration in the 70kph to 100 kph range extremely responsive. I have to pass quick and fast and I often hit nearly 150 kph just as I go by--especially if assisted by a hill. Performance buries the 4 cyl gas only Fusion and very much equals the 6 cyl gas models (I've owned the latter and tested/refused to buy the former on just these grounds).

70 kph = 43 mph

100 kph = 62 mph

150 kph = 93 mph

Is your rental a hybrid (I doubt it) or a straight gas SE? If gas only, you haven't experienced the combo of the 4-cylinder engine + the electric motor. The Fusion Hybrid doesn't have the power of most 6-cylinder cars these days, which have become very powerful, but it has enough power for me and seems to me like V6 cars of several years ago.

1. Every cruise I know of requires the driver to turn it on initially to set the speed. After that, simply cancel/resume as needed unless/until you shut off the ignition.

2. As noted, if you are in a gas-only SE, then there is probably a difference in power and power range. My Hybrid can scoot along quite nicely.

3. Lighter/12V plug - besides under that center stack, check in the console. There may be one there as well. On my Titanium, I have 3 12V outlets, a 110V outlet and all sorts of RCA plugs and USB ports.

4. looks. no disagreement - it's one of the selling points for me.

5. Ride ... heck I stiffened up the ride with tower braces and a heftier sway bar because it was too mushy feeling to me!

I had a base 2015 SE rental (2.5L) once. There is definitely a 12V port in the front, under the centre panel. Otherwise I wouldn't have been able to power my Garmin GPS.
