I was strongly considering trading in my 2013 because of my utter distain for my ford touch ( I normally keep a vehicle until the wheels fall off), but I am very disappointed by the new front end, what where they thinking ?

I'm waiting for someone else to try it and see how well it works before I attempt it myself :P

 

I recently drove a loaner Focus with the same front end... I prefer the older one but this still looks pretty sleek IMO. The headlights are also much better.

I think this is a fine example of 'evolutionary' design. It's different.... but just barely. Of course fans like us are going to notice all the small differences, but I doubt that many other drivers will even see any differences unless the cars are side by side. And as these are just 'spy' shots, I'll hold any real thoughts until the full reveal. Maybe the honeycomb grille will be on one trim level and the slats that we have will be on all the others.

 

The part that I'm most curious about is the tail lights. You can see from the final image that they're different, but I'd like to see them full on before I try to judge them.

 

This certainly won't make me want to rush out and get a new one. If I wanted new and different for a 2017 I'd take a longer harder look at the new Malibu Hybrid. As is, I'll personally continue to pay down my current loan and consider trading in (or even switching to a lease) next year.

I like it too. Looks clean and crisp unlike the gaping overdone front ends of the new Toyota's.

Agreed only that odd looking edge over / around the fog light doesn't quite fit.

Also the grill looks a little more round along the front edge than the current front end.

I looked at this, if included a whole new center stack with tactile buttons and a intuitive HVAC control layout, I would buy it. At 2k, it's too pricey for me to just upgrade to sync 3.

As far as the new 2017 front end. I like the headlights ( as long as they incorporate some LED driving lights). The main grill shape is okay ( current version is better) but the egg crate design looks very cheep, and you can see the radiator.

The lower part really turns me off, the oversized fog light bezels look very cheesy, the grill opening between the fog lights is the biggest mistake in my opinion.

Plus $300 to get a 1 year warranty, otherwise the warranty is 30 days. Who is going to fix it if it quits working?

This has all the detailed info. The current front grill will still be available. I like the change to the rear, which has been the Fusion's weak point.

no appreciable engine upgrades to HP or torque = -1

twist-knob gear shift = -1 (I'm an old fart - I like the shift lever thank you!)

5-bar grille still remains for S, SE, Titanium = -1

 

exhaust - My FFH has a big round sewer pipe instead of a nicely contoured one as shown. If sewer pipe then -1 else +1.

 

Fog/road lights could be more Mondeo Vignale style instead of this one. And as noted, the surround is wacky looking = -1

LED head and road lights = +1

 

Right now, no '17 model in my future until I see data that refutes some of my negatives about it.

Interesting how opinions differ :)

 

We have to wait and see how the different trims will finally look like and be different from one another but I'm personally not a big fan of the chrome spoke across and into the rear lights.

 

I'm pretty sure the new Sport trim will get a lot of attention and even more so if the gas prices keep falling.

I'd like to see the handling improvements of the Fusion Sport available in the Hybrid.

I'm glad the non-Platinum/Sport models retain the horizontal lines on the grille - the best looking one IMO.

 

I'm 24 years old but like the rest of you "old farts", I MUCH prefer a traditional shifter's appearance. I'll sacrifice the extra storage space for a sleeker and cooler look :P

 

The Platinum appears to be the same as the high-priced Mondeo Vignale?

 

No update on the Energi's battery pack size it seems?

 

I guess I'll stick with my 2013 unless it gets written off in an accident, and if that happens, I'll likely buy a used 2016 (it has the physical buttons on the centre stack). With the CAD devaluing like a rock the 2017 models are likely going to be too expensive for me anyway unless Ford's hedge fund locked in a decent rate last year :/

 

Also, with the introduction of the new Platinum trim, I hope the SE trim doesn't get compromised (i.e. lose out on tech options or leather).

For me the win will be Sync 3. I'd like to see them squeeze in more trunk space, but it seems like that won't happen.

 

Styling changes seem minor, which is a good thing for resale value of our current Fusion. What's the difference between the 2017 Platinum and the 2013-2016 Platinum?

 

Getting rid of the gear shift lever is a plus. It's just an overgrown electrical switch -- not a mechanical level to the transmission at all! As another step toward reality, it would be nice if they got rid of the fake auto transmission "creep" when stopped.

 

Looking to get a 2017 Fusion hybrid or Lincoln MKZh. Our 2014 has been great but is missing some options that I expected.

The Platinum is a whole level above the Titanium (which is still offered). From what I can infer, it's basically a rebadged Mondeo Vignale (Ford doesn't sell Lincolns in Europe so their luxury car over there is a Mondeo with fancier leather and a more premium finish overall inside and outside). Both gas and hybrid variants offer the Platinum trim. I could see the Platinum eating into Lincoln sales, heh.

I'm a little disappointed that the active park assist (the only way to get parking sensors on the front bumper) has been removed from the SE trim, and the same has happened to the Adaptive Cruise. Those two options are now standard on the Titanium, but the Titanium no longer features the spoiler-delete option (I don't like the look of the spoiler), and I don't have any need for a premium audio system.

 

Gotta say I am a little disappointed - I guess they decided that Titanium sales were being cannibalized by SE sales? Up to 2016, the Titanium's only standout features were the Sony audio system and the different leather style, plus a few minor cosmetic tweaks that I can't remember. Those who didn't care about such things but who wanted all the advanced tech (active park assist, adaptive cruise, etc) could be completely satisfied with the SE.

 

However the fact that you no longer have to pay extra for APA and ACC on the Titanium is rather attractive...

 

I might buy a used '17 Titanium when my warranty runs out and look at third party spoiler removal ;)

Maybe I am just basic, but does anyone like the brown, white and black in the interior for the platinum trim? I like one solid color for the most part and prefer black everything. I think I would still stick with the Titanium trim if I was looking to buy a car now.

I can't stand monotone interiors, and certainly not black ones. Bought my SE instead of a Titanium specifically to avoid the all-black interior. Guess that's why there are choices!

Good catch! If you are correct that would really make my day. My ideal Fusion would be an SE with everything except the moonroof and spoiler - basically a lighter Titanium with a lower-end stereo. Being able to select the good options on lower trims, in a somewhat a-la-carte fashion, is what sets Ford apart from the competition right now. For example, I could equip an Accord with a similar level of tech but that would force me to step up to the Touring trim which forces a few things on me that I neither need nor want.

 

As for interior, I also dislike black monotone - my last Fusion (a 2008) was like that and boy was it hideous! The color scheme in the Platinum is the same as the one used in the Mondeo Vignale across the pond, and I like it.

One of the biggest changes, in my mind, for the 2017 FFH is that they are now offering the 18" wheel/tire options again.

One comment I saw about the 2017 FFH said "Meanwhile, the Fusion Hybrid and plug-in hybrid (Energi) receive software updates that Ford believes will deliver more efficiency, though executives wouldn't say if the fuel economy figures will change."

 

I guess this increased efficiency will allow Ford to achieve their current Fusion EPA ratings, or better, once again with the 18" wheels.

That would be great if we could get that software upgrade since there's no change to the powertrain.
