Screen casting android phone to gps, backup screen.

Recommended Posts

Has anyone found a way to screen cast their android phone to the screen with backup cam and gps?

I was again reminded just how big a waist the GPS is when I tried to find an address thats been there over 100 years and it couldnt find it. My Garmen found it but not Ford. Right now I use either the garmen or my phone and google maps. I see other people have been able to use chrom cast to cast their android phone to other vehicles.

Nope, no automaker would let you just mirror your phone screen completely onto an in-dash display for liability reasons (they could be sued for allowing you to watch Youtube while driving).

Apple's Carplay and Android Auto will allow mirroring of specific apps (e.g. Google Maps) without mirroring the rest of the phone, and sadly MyFordTouch is based on neither of those.

You'll have to just get a windshield mount for your phone :(

Who cares about what Ford says? There are plenty of examples on youtube. I want to mirror google maps navagation. Thats all. Also There are 100's of replacement indash radio cd players one could install on any vehicle, and view DVDs while driving. But thats not what I want. I would be happy just to show my garmen gps on the screen.

You're right, Ford should spend millions of dollars to develop something for only exactly what YOU want. Ford can't be sued if you install something aftermarket and crash and kill somebody, they can be sued if you use something they design.

So far, the responses here seem to be based on inaccurate assumptions about what the OP is asking. I'll take a stab at making a more correct assumption!

I've searched around and found these threads:

http://www.f150forum.com/f2/successfully-mirroring-android-onto-my-ford-touch-8-screen-273632/index2/

http://fordcmaxenergiforum.com/topic/1702-displaying-phones-display-on-8-inch-my-ford-touch-display/

So... it is doable, with some effort and investment. The major impediment seems to be the video lockout that comes into play when the vehicle is in motion. The only solution to that problem seems to be the aftermarket Lockpick: https://www.coastaletech.com/index.htm

I'd love to do this, but I'm not willing to make the investment at this time...

Yes that what I was looking for, I didnt know the screen was locked out. I want to use it in my Motor home also, it has a old Jensen but has a video input. Ill get the adapror and it should work on the jensen ok. However that lockpick is way too expensive, most likely $5 worth of parts or less.

I guess the first 2 people that replied cant read and comprehend very good.

thank you

I found this in a link to another post that poped up as a google commercial below your message. If this is correct it would seem you only have to trick the screen to think its still in park. Most likely pulling 1 wire and either grounding it or tieying it to 5v. I do not have an apple but it should be the same.

"Tried the Apple cable again today and it worked as long as the car was in park. Video and audio. I think the 30pin connector was just not plugged in the the iPhone 4S correctly."
