HID issues

Hey everyone

Just got my first hybrid. 2013 fusion. I love it but I am finding out there are a lot.of little things going on with the car that make it difficult. For example I just wired up an HID kit. When I turn them on the drivers side does not illuminate until about 5 min after the batteries charge from driving the car around. This kit was just a plug in kit. No separate ground wire attachment. Is there a way to get this bulb to turn on like normal

Do you have a relay with your kit? If it's directly plugged in the OEM light system, It can't work properly as the OEM lights shuts off when you use the turn signal, that means no power to the ballasts.You need a relay to by-pass that and you'll have steady power to your ballast. Ballasts need to stock energy to trigger the Xenon bulb. A relay will use your 12v battery to have steady power.

The oem lights did not turn off when the turn signal comes on. There was no relay. I cannot get the lights to stay on at any point for some reason

The light turns off with the turn signal on daytime lights. And the system works on 6 volts on daylights and 12v nighlights. That's why you need a relay, to get constant 12v to your ballasts.

The issue is with your HID connections, not your car.

Might need a DRL module as well as we have auto lights on our Fusion.

US spec vehicles do not have DRLs as a standard feature, like you do in Canada. 2015+ Fusions have user controlled DRLs that can be turned on or off as a dash menu option.

Interesting, I assumed US-market vehicles all physically had DRLs, except that in the US it is possible for the user to deactivate them, while in Canada that ability is locked out, and you may be required to get reprogramming done to perform that if you import a US-spec car into Canada (my parents were forced to do so but other people apparently got away with it). Didn't think there were actually cars where DRLs were physically not present!

 

On the topic of HIDs, what brand were yours and how much did you pay? I'm contemplating getting HIDs or LEDs but browsing around Google shows that people have different kinds of problems, from burnouts to blown fuses.
