Exterior Mirror Puddle Lamps

Recommended Posts

May be a very stupid question but does anyone know how to get the puddle lamps on the underside of the mirrors to illuminate as you approach the car? I have other cars with the same feature and when it senses the remote is in range, the lights turn on so you don't approach a dark vehicle. Can this be done and I am just missing a setting? Thanks!

So no option at all to make this happen on the Fusion? Seems a bit ridiculous to me but this is my first Ford.

Thanks Gry...if that's the worst thing I have to do so be it but kinda silly for Ford not to make it an automatic thing. You can find cars for $10K less that do this and I can't make my 15 Fusion do it...just stupid but as they say it is what it is.

The Fusion does not know that you are approaching. It doesn't request a reply from a fob until you touch the door handle.

Thanks Murphy...I fully understand that now based on what the others have shared above. I have several other cars that do see the fob in range and activate the lighting BEFORE you get to the car which is nice when it's dark. Once I touch the handle, I'm already standing at the car so a bit useless at that point. Thought Ford was smarter than that!

What cars do this without you touching the key fob or car? It must put a drain on the 12V system for the car to be constantly searching for the key fob...

The Tesla model S does it and yes they have a drain problem with their 12 volt batteries.

Yes, I know that the Model S does this, but the OP said:

I want to know what car costs under $20k and will automatically illuminate when the key fob gets near without touching the fob or the car. Most cars that cost under $20k do not have push button start so it would surprise me that they would do this.

Cool. I'd expect a feature like that from a Lexus which likely costs about $10k more than a base FFH. I'm still waiting for the OP (or anyone) to list vehicles that are less expensive than the Fusion that have this feature.
