Ford Using Computer Printed Parts to Accelerate Product Development -- Both On the Track and Off

Recommended Posts

Not uncommon anymore, heck, I have a box full of 3D generated prototype parts sitting on my desk from my current project. We use an in-house 3D printer for rough fitment and appearance issues and a service (Protolabs) for fully functional 3D parts for testing and assembly issues.

Its not cheap, but neither is reworking a $50000 plastic mold.

Where I work we use a 3D printer as well to help with engineering and testing of new parts for production. It has saved lots of time & money.
