Anyone Figured Out Why Ford Can't Make a Trunk Align?

Recommended Posts

Seems like a lot of people are cursed with the misaligned trunk, evidenced by varying gaps around the lid, especially around the tail light area and rear quarter panel. Despite the widespread complaints and about 90% of Fusions on the road suffering from this, I can find no explanation, and can only assume it is very shoddy parts and/or lousy assembly quality control. It is astounding Ford lets this stuff out of the factory. I really needed a car, and bought mine with the trunk gap problem, but after examination, I am stumped as to why the varying gaps exist. It is really starting to buy me now, so just wondering if anyone else has learned more about it. My trunk also shuts and opens like something is "sprung", but still can't see exactly what is happening.

When I worked for Ford, I was told that the gap inspections should be done during the PDI at the dealership. Tought It should be done at the assembly plant. Anyway, no dealer does that inspection.

I gotta check my deck lid now ...damn! ;)

When I got the strut tower brace and hood struts on, the mechanic marked telltales for the hood plates, but called me out to double-check before he closed the books on the job. He was right on the money ... gaps were really on the mark!
