murphy Report post Posted May 2, 2015 Murphy, did you select the correct input and put the car in Drive? It will work in Park.Yes I had the car in drive and the parking brake was released and I could select any screen. I was not moving however. As my forum handle indicates when it happens it will be at the most inconvenient time possible. 2 hybridbear and GrySql reacted to this
TonyHzNV Report post Posted May 2, 2015 (edited) OK, I'll try it again tonight after work & see what it does. You sure you had the "A/V" input selected? The screen works normally until you select A/V. Edited May 2, 2015 by TonyHzNV

TonyHzNV Report post Posted May 3, 2015 (edited) Well, now I'm a bit confused myself. It has also been a while since I last tried using the A/V input with my iPod, and I swear the screen was blank except for the input buttons. It may have been before I updated Sync to 3.7, I don't know. Anyway, what I got tonight is the screen shown in the pic below. As you can see, it's not blank, but still not a very pretty screen to look at. You can however, switch to any other quadrant and/or your home screen and you won't have to look at it. So now, I take back everything else I said and I apologize if I created any confusion. Looks like I'm the one who's confused! :gaah: Edited May 3, 2015 by TonyHzNV 1 GrySql reacted to this
murphy Report post Posted May 3, 2015 My 2013 still has 3.6.2 and is not eligible for an upgrade. I definitely remember having the screen lock up on me but can't remember what I did to cause it to happen.

RTimothy Report post Posted May 7, 2015 Ok I've got my portable Xmsirius working in our hybrid. thanks for ur helpAnd I received a reply from the map people about our nav updates being too expensive. The reply came from a company called "HERE". They v ery clearly said that the auto manufacturer determines the price of the update sd cards not the map people. It's been said on the forum how the map people get the money from the high prices. Apparently not. .
acdii Report post Posted May 8, 2015 And another reason I chose not to get nav in my new one. LOL I still have an SD slot but it can hold a LOT of music instead. 1 corncobs reacted to this

It's been said on the forum how the map people get the money from the high prices. Apparently not. . It is worth noting that you can get the Here maps/navigation app for your phone (iOS, Android, and Windows) for free, including the ability to download maps for free. It has it's advantages and disadvantages from other navigation apps, the biggest that you can download (for free) the maps you need (they have maps for most countries), so the only data you use while Here is running is if you turn traffic on. While I'm sure Here doesn't supply their maps to Ford for free, I think the fact they offer their maps for free within their own free app shows they aren't charging Ford (or Garmin, or any of the other dozens of companies that use their maps) nearly as much as what these companies charge their users. Hybrider Report post Posted May 8, 2015 I'm pretty sure Here is not in the business to give out freebies. They can charge advertisers to put ads in their free app, and then they can also charge Ford big bucks for their Nav data since they know Ford is good for it. Then that leaves Ford with having to recoup their own Nav costs somehow.

Then that leaves Ford with having to recoup their own Nav costs somehow. To this point, Here has not added ads to their app. While I agree they could in the future, I suspect they will charge for the app/maps at some point, though I don't think it will be "soon". Nokia is the one that created and owns Here, though they have been looking to possibly finding a buyer for Here -- so I suspect they won't start charging until they have a buyer or decide not to sell. In fact, the reason for the free app, in many ways, is because it initially was included free on Windows Phones made by Nokia -- they've rolled out the Android and iOS apps since they sold the mobile phone division to Microsoft. I also suspect much of the issue is that both Google and Android maps are free, making it harder to charge for map/navigation apps. As for what they charge Ford, it is nowhere close to what Ford charges. For example, Garmin units and map upgrades are much cheaper than what Ford charges (especially with units that have free map upgrades); I find it hard to believe that Garmin can negotiate far lower rates (based on Nav unit and upgrade costs) than Ford can. Additionally, you can currently buy the new Ford A6 navigation cards on eBay for $50-100; in a couple of months they will likely be under $50 -- it doesn't make sense that people can sell these cards, sealed in the original Ford/Lincoln packaging, for these prices, if Ford wasn't making a substantial amount of money. And it isn't as if this is people who got the cards for free and can't use them, the people selling them on eBay are typically selling multiples. hybridbear Report post Posted May 10, 2015 As has been explained many times already, Ford needs to overcharge for certain items that they know customers will pay the high prices for to recoup the costs of designing & building features that customers will not pay extra for (such as airbags). In fact, some articles have stated that the base model, such as the Fusion S, likely has a very small margin, where Ford makes a larger profit is when people buy cars with extra features. ethermion Report post Posted May 10, 2015 Where are the Americans on this thread? Market pricing, all-y'all. If I can get an updated map for $50 on eBay from time to time, no harm here. I have spent much more on a bottle of scotch. And if anyone thinks that the "free" here phone app is really free, you are most certainly wrong. Products that do not generate revenue sooner or later die. If there are no advertisements, then they are probably selling your tracking data. If you don't care that somebody's (more likely somebodies) database knows you frequent the Shaven Poodle Club after work, good for you. MFT keeps her secrets, and I see value in that. And this is most certainly a case of it is what it is. Whining here is not going to affect the MSRP of a map upgrade. 1 TonyHzNV reacted to this
acdii Report post Posted May 11, 2015 Discovered something today. If you have MFT without NAV you dont get Travellink. Oh well.
