  1. New 600 miler, requesting permission to join the club. Next up, the 1,000 mile club - not 1,000 miles per tank of course, but 1,000+ miles travelled while maintaining 50+ MPG.

    Poor MPG

My two cents - I have just over 2500 miles on my FFH. My lifetime average is 47.3 MPG, and I'm probably going to join the 600 mile club for the first time with this tank of gas. I agree whole heartedly with the use of the Empower screen, and the "two-bar method" of acceleration. I get my FFH up to speed using that method, and I put it on cruise control almost everywhere I go. I've learned to anticipate traffic signals and let the car decelerate as well as taking advantage of regenerative braking. Right now it's a game to see if I can keep my current MPGs at 50+ on each tank. While long and/or highway travel knocks my MPGs down, most of my 4 mile commute is on city streets, hence a good mixture of ICE and battery usage. I'm calmer, I travel in the right lane for those folks who are less calm, and I love my FFH.
  3. I wish my 2014 SE had the garage door opener in the visor like the titanium does.
  4. Got mine today! Purchased on 5/28/14.
  5. Greetings all. With your permission, I'd like to join the prestigious 500 mile club. What I'm particularly pleased about is that I was able to accomplish the feat on my first tank of gas. My current DTE shows 38 miles, and while I can squeeze a few more miles out of the tank I won't make 600, which is my next goal. Thanks to everyone for their tips about the "2-bar acceleration", the maximum use of cruise control, and the benefits of coasting/regenerative braking. I can't wait for the departure of this Phoenix heat and for the car to get broken in, because a 600 mile tank is in my crosshairs.
  6. Thanks guys. Tomorrow I'll be picking up my new Ice Storm SE, with 502A pkg, Nav & rear camera, using the "family member is a Ford factory worker plan". I've been visiting this forum for almost a year. I've gone from getting the SE, to the Titanium, to the Energi SE, & the Energi Titanium. But now when it's time to make the move, I'm able to afford the SE. Special thanks to Hybrid Bear for your personal advice on various topics. Starting tomorrow, I'll be looking more closely at the mileage posts and tips. Pete
  7. Greetings folks, I was at the local dealer over the weekend, and I'm ready to pull the trigger. With all said and done, it looks like I'm going to be able to swing an SE with the 502a package, nav, rear camera, etc. I would really like to have the inflatable rear seatbelts but none of the cars I'm looking at have them. Can the dealer install them for me or is that a factory installation. While I'm at it, since I'll be getting the 502a package, it shows 18" wheels as being an option. Can I have the dealer install the larger wheels as well (for the price of that option of course)? Thanks. All of these thoughts occurred to me after we went home, so I didn't think to ask while there. Thanks.
  8. Thanks all, awesome answers from everyone. Murphy - I viewed quite a few of the videos. I guess I'm going to just have to wait until I get the car and play around with all of the info available. Dalesky - I hear you about your wife not caring about the screens. My wife will just use the car to get from point A to point B. After viewing the videos, I wondered, for those of you who've had the FFH for awhile and have "learned" to drive it the most efficiently; what screens you display in your FFH now. When I rechecked this thread, some of you already answered that question - so thanks.
  9. Thanks guys - both of you are on this site quite often and I value your input. For what it's worth, she'll mainly be using the car locally, without driving at speeds above 55. Mainly just picking up the kid from school, running errands, etc. I'm going to search this site for some screenshots/explanations of the various modes to give me a head start. Thanks again.
  10. Hi folks, Longtime lurker, first time poster. I'll be buying a FFH in June, but it will be the wife's car. Her driving habits for the most part only consist of accelerating or braking, where the word "coast" just doesn't register with her. Knowing that driving any hybrid requires a different mindset, and with all the coaching available in the FFH, which mode in your opinion would provide the most feedback to her to help her drive the car most efficiently? Not having an FFH or any hybrid car for that matter, I only have this site to help me get ready for this highly anticipated purchase, and I'd like to know as much as I can from the get go. Great site, thanks. Pete
  11. Thanks guys. I'm going to have to pay more attention to the ad I saw/heard. I guess the FFH can go up to 47 mph in the EV mode, but they didn't say how long it could stay in the EV mode. Kinda tricky. Thanks again.
  12. Newby here. After doing my due diligence and looking in past posts on this topic (and finding nothing specific to this question), I have a question for you folks. I am in the market for a new fusion (on the Ford A Plan), and I'm wondering about the "up to 47 MPH in the EV mode" claim seen online. If my battery is fully charged, and the FFH is warmed up to proper operating temp, can I make it to work (about 12 miles, max speed limit 45 MPH) solely on the EV mode? I understand the variables of uphill vs. downhill and level driving, etc., but the prospect of using little or no gas on my daily commute in a really cool looking car is quite appealing! Thanks - Pete
