bryanb started following Water in the trunk after it rains, One Puff of burning oil and 2010 ICE compression check

Has anyone else seen this? I've noticed this a couple times now. After some months of just in town driving, with no real hard acceleration, if I go on the interstate, and floor it for passing, or whatnot, I'll get a big puff of burning oil out of the tail pipe. After that, its fine again for some months, until I take it on the highway again. The car had been in an accident recently, and was running fine, but we parked it while (2 months) the body shop receive parts, and could get us scheduled. I had to install a new 12v battery during that time. Started it up today yo go to shop, and check engine light is on. Seemed to run fine, but I stood on it, to see if it would run funny or something, and it did that puff of blue smoke again. Just once. 2010 FFH. 155K

the age fix is something different. this involves a computer (likely laptop) special software (people mention FORscan), and a special interface plug to car. Which I did, as well as the TSB in Aug 2020. Been averaging 35-36 since. Got the letter about the Performance Upgrade. I paid for the TSB be done in 2020, which was a software update for the PCM, and BECM. I originally called the dealer about the refund that the recent letter mentioned, but he also let me know there was an outstanding recall for airbags. So went in for both. Upon arrival, the service manager mentioned that of Ford 'reopened' the issue, there is another update. Ended up not charging me for anything, nor refunding anything. But he did check my headlight bulbs I couldn't get to last weekend, without taking the front bumper off (yes it comes off to replace the bulbs. I tried without, and didn't get to one bulb) for no charge. It is my suspicion that the TSB and the Performance Upgrade letter may be the same update. The former, the customer would pay for; its not a recall. the later is an offer from Ford to take care of a problem before it becomes a recall, or fix a problem that doesn't require a recall. But this is my question: to confirm my suspicion, is the TSB and the Performance Upgrade the same software update?

How does one do a compression check in the hybrid? Turning the key, doesn't necessarily mean the engine will crank.

Had this happen on my 2007 SEL. But only the wells on either side of the trunk. Check the vents in the rear quarter panel, you can see them from the outside, from under the fender, or rear bumper cover. I pulled them out, from the inside and then taped them mostly shut. The aged plastic curled a little bit.

The reverse sensor wouldn't stop beeping the other day, despite nothing behind me. This was after a touchless carwash, and a couple days of below freezing. I didn't get to driving the car again (shared with wife) for a few days, so don't know if it was more than the one instance. Noticed today, that is didn't beep until I got fairly close to something, like 4 feet. Can this system be tested?

Gotta ask to satisfy and light argument with a friend. would removing the big plastic engine cover improve or change the cooling of the engine?!

2010, that I just bought with 144k on it. Found this forum while researching. Went to local ford dealer. Told them I have the TSB. They took car to do a standard diagnostic, and apparently the way it works is: you give them symptoms, they type it in, and the terminal comes back with TSB’s and other articles from ford on what might be problem. They have to do these before the mechanic can run down his own ideas. So this one immediately came up, and they did it. Charged me $75 for an hour or so of work. Immediate improvement!
