Actually your right on both accounts. The resonator reduces sound and improves fresh air flow into the engine. What it does is reduces the air pressure in the intake tube by allowing the air that is back flowing from your engine to move into the chamber as well. It lowers the pressure in the tube thus allowing fresh air to move forward more freely. The side effect is that the lower air pressure reduces the noise of the backflow so you don't get the boom. Imagine a sinus cold and that feeling you get when you go from stuffy to being able to breath normal again.

I wish I had held off on buying the set from the dealership. They mount to the outside trim with 3M and hide the chrome. I just got my Energi in July and had them add them when I bought it. :(

I've see a kit on eBay and Amazon that comes with two chrome rails that match the upper grill.

Plasti-dip is probably the easiest way to go. First clean the trim. Tape off around the trim you want to paint. Overlap your tape going one direction. Either clockwise or counter clockwise but not both. (When you go to remove the tape it will all unravel in one piece this way. ) Use blue tape for automotive. Masking tapes have stronger adhesives and can be a pain to clean up. After taping off, make sure to tape newspaper around the outer side to keep overspray minimal. You don't have to, the plasti-dip rubs off but this just saves work. Spray the parts in a smooth motion with light coats. It will look bumpy but it will smooth out once it dries. If you want flat black, you're done. Peel the tape off. If you want gloss black apply plasti-dip glossifier. For a super smooth finish, use a tack cloth lightly between dry coats to remove overspray. Best part is, if you don't like it, you can peel it off and you've only spent about $15-20.

Nice to see so many people actually putting some pride into their cars. I know clay barring is tedious but well worth it. A couple polishes I've used for show bikes and my classic cars have worked well for me. The first is called Liquid Glass. You only need to apply it once a year. It runs about $35.00 a can, but well worth it. If you want something a lil cheaper but still excellent quality, I've had great results with Meguiar's #7 Show Car Glaze. What polishes have you all had good results with?

I had a set on my Mazda. They fit nice but become brittle in cold weather. The snow/ice build up from the front wheels ended up cracking them.
