  1. Well it turns out the "odd behavior" was apparently something wrong with my car. It was going to battery saver mode. I found this out the hard way as I was on the top of a parking deck at the airport with no power to even turn on the dashboard lights. Luckily it had just enough juice to unlock the driver's side door, but not the other doors. Looking through the forums here last night and this morning, it seems as though my 12V system may have an issue. It eventually started after about a half hour of turning the key and I made it home. This morning it fired up normally but shut off oddly.
  2. Was new software pushed to Ford Fusion Hybrids (mine is 2014). My car started behaving differently at startup and shut down - different sounds, different displays. Seemed odd. I honestly have no idea if Ford has the ability to update software remotely or not, but it seemed odd. Car performs fine, but seems to do an extra step at startup and seems to shut down differently than the last 3 years.
  3. I certainly cannot believe it. It's giving me more motivation to clean out my side of the garage! I have not had a chance to take it into the dealer...I'm not due for an oil change until probably January. Mileage is about 25k from what I recall. It's a Hybrid S that I bought new in 2014 from Autonation Ford in North Canton, OH.
  4. All - not sure if anyone else is having this problem or not so I figured I'd ask. My '14 Fusion Hybrid's rear defrost seems to be very weak lately. To clear the thinnest layer of Autumn frost takes two cycles. I don't recall it being this weak last year. Has this happened to anyone? Nick
  5. My oil approached 0% at about 10,000 miles in my 2014. My first change was compliments of the dealer. First time I haven't changed the oil myself in 15 years. Was kinda nice to stay clean, but I think I may give it a go myself next time.
  6. I finally blocked my upper grill with foam...oh what a difference to my MPG and my comfort! I was at about 40 mpg when cold and the car never seemed to heat up. now I'm back up to upper 40's (my norm) and the heat seems to work better. Should've done this last winter.
  7. As a landfill engineer, I cried a little when I saw this.
  8. Mine does this too. Doesn't really bother me except at red lights with a car in front of me...that's when I notice it. I'm too afraid to do anything about it because the car runs so well otherwise. if someone finds an easy solution, let me know. Also doesn't seem to be affected by the state of charge of the HVB.
  9. I got my check on Monday! 2014 Fusion that I bought in January of 2014.
  10. 2014 Fusion, ~7,500 miles. 47.9 mpg running average
  11. You're seeing about what I see in my 2014. At highway speeds above 65 mph, I get 41 to 45 mpg, in general. My recent trip to Central Michigan from Northeast Ohio, I got 46 mpg on the way up and 42 mpg on the way back. Both at similar speeds. Not quite sure what was different. It was hotter, so my a/c was likely working more on the way back. At speeds <60 mph, I can regularly average about 50 mpg for an entire tank when it's warm out. My running average is about 47 mpg after about 6,000 miles of driving. There are techniques you can do to improve highway mileage to basically outsmart the cruise control/computer settings. Hybridbear, I think, had some good tips about keeping the ICE on during downhill runs. I tried it a lot on the way to Michigan and it seemed to help. I will caution you, you can only do it safely when there is no traffic. On the way home, traffic was tighter, so safety trumped hypermiling.
  12. My buddy works for a major gas station chain around here and he says when the gas pump "clicks" it sucks gasoline back into the system. This is done for emissions reasons and to prevent a spill. He laughs when people "top off" because he gets to sell that gas twice. In my opinion, you should pump to the first click only. If you feel patient, slow down your pumping rate as you get closer to your total fill-up.
  13. 634.4 miles on my last tank with 12.53 gallons on my last fill-up. I hit zero miles remaining about 3 miles before I filled up. I was sweating bullets (even though I knew I wasn't out of gas really) because it was about 1 am and I was in a remote area and didn't want to run out of gas there.
  14. I can't wait to drive to the bank to cash this check in the car I love that exceeds the original fuel economy expectations. 50.5 MPG on my last fill-up!
  15. Big milestone for me. My mileage to date just clicked up to 47.0 mpg. I seem to gain 0.1 mpg per day or day-and-a-half.
  16. Yes, my EV miles has reset also after 1,000 EV miles. If you can keep track of how many thousands, you'll be ok with just seeing the 100's place. This sort of made me upset because I was on track for being over 50% EV miles when it flipped. I had hoped to keep track of it through this.
  17. My latest fill-up. Car trip reading - 50.5 mpg...Fuelly calculation 51.5 MPG. I love this warm weather!!!
  18. Oh, I am loving this warm weather! Drove like a complete maniac (ok, more like most of the other people on the road not trying to maximize fuel econ.) trying to keep up with my wife who was in the Mazda. Still hit 50 mpg on the dash! Bring on summer gas!
  19. so many of the replacement bulbs have a blue tint to them. Wonder if those will be allowed.
  20. Thank you very much. I'm gonna give it a try.
  21. I have a Fusion S with black rocker moldings (i.e. not body color). I did some searching and didn't find much on them. Anyone have any tips on how to keep these clean? I got a little wax on them which I'm trying to wear off but road grim (especially salt) seems to make them prettty ugly. I don't mind the black so long as it's clean. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks, Nick
  22. Had my first warm-weather fill up since I got the Fusion. 49.0 mpg on Fuelly (49.3 on my trip)!!!
  23. Ok, I finally had my first fill-up since this last post. Here's the stats. Trip Computer 550.7 miles 294.7 EV miles 11.15 gal 49.3 mpg Fuelly/Pump 553 miles (I hit the trip after I had already turned out of the gas station last time) 11.176 gallons 49.0 mpg Pretty close and great mileage!!!!!! Moral of the story for me is that I'm not going back to that other gas station again.
