  1. My FFH is working great but still I do not like what I see here. It seems that Ashley has no pull at Ford to effect a reasonable response or recovery of this customer service debacle by Ford. By this time I have to wonder how Ford values their customer base. From what I see on this forum the FFH owners here are very loyal to Ford. If I were you Ignatio, I would be going up the line at Ford until you find someone who cares and can get your vehicle fixed. You have been more than patient and reasonable.
  2. I would expect the SG II SOC value to be a percent with 100 being HVB being fully charges. What I saw tonight when I programmed that number was -1900 while sitting in my driveway. The ignition was on and the battery graphic indicated about 50% charge. As I sat there the negative number slowly increased like -1902, -1903, -1905... I double checked my entering of the data for SOC in X gauges on the SG II. I am puzzled. Any thoughts? I have tried three more codes and they all work fine.

  4. I have several questions. 1. Does MG1 operates as a motor other than to start the ICE? I figure it must or it must freewheel as it has to rotate if the ICE is off for one thing. It doesn't make sense to me that it would act as a generator if the ICE is off (that is, powered by MG2). There is no useful purpose for that, that I can see. 2. Does someone know the gear counts for the ring, planet and sun gears and/ or the formula for their interaction. I have run into one for the Prius. I have viewed the very helpful demo/simulator at eahart.com/prius/psd . I would like to know the 'rules' for the 2013/2014 FFH (RPM ranges, amp ranges, etc.) 3. Does anyone have more insight into the computer logic that controls the power split via the planetary gear. I woud like to understand the parameters better for ICE only, MG@ ony, ICE and MG2. At least I would like to know what the variables are like torque at the wheels, accelerator position, SOC, SoC, outside temp, engine temp, HVAC on/off state ( with engine cold and what is 'cold'), etc.
  5. I did not see any info for MG2. Did I miss it? Is MG1 ever used as a motor other than to start the ice. That is, does it sometimes work in conjunction with MG2 to power the wheels? If it does not then it must freewheel to 'keep up' with MG2 due to the link through the planetary gear. General question, does it seem like Scan Guage II will be useful for the 2014/2014 FFH to understand what is going on technically?
  6. After reading all the information I could find in this forum and some elsewhere as well regarding the eCVT I am thinking that the planetary gear is a key element. The three main components of the planetary gear set are the sun gear, planet gears and ring gear. I understand that in most applications of a planetary gear set one of these three is stationary but not so for the FFH. In this case all three can be moving at once. I am not sure of other valid combinations. Perhaps others can shed light on this. Then I found a web site with a great demo tool showing the application of the planetary gear set in an environment like the Prius or FFH. It show RPMs for MG1, MG2 and ICE and the resulting MPH. Here is the link: http://eahart.com/prius/psd/ Enjoy it and let me know what you think.
  7. I hope this is a good place to ask this. I found a post somewhere that a destination can be entered into Navigation from the phone book. I had been looking for that for 11 months. So I dashed out to my care to try it. You go to Phone, Phone book, Options, set as Destination. When I do so it says the address is incorrect, please update your phone book. I cannot figure out what is wrong with the addresses - I have tried several. This would be useful. Interestingly, if I use the Android app, Sync Destinations, the same address will transfer to Navigation.
  8. I would really like to see the above screen become available. It would be so much more informative. Maybe they could have a technical view like this and the simple view option for those who just want a simple summary like the present. Many of us, though, say, Tell me more". Ford reps, please give this one serious consideration.
  9. In trying to understand how the ICE comes on in cold weather I have observed the following three times in two days. Today my coolant temp was 68 degrees C as reported by ET, my battery was 90 percent charged, I had the HVAC off and was coasting on a slight downhill with my foot off the accelerator. The middle LCD reported that the ICE was on due to acceleration. How could this be? I could understand 'normal operation' perhaps but why 'acceleration'?
  10. another test to post a picture
  11. Here are two pictures of the hitch receiver that I had installed. It has worked great with my bike rack once I cut the 2 3/8 inch square. I don't plan to tow anything with my FFH. The installing dealer recommended 150 pound maximum weight including the bike rack due to it being 'bouncy' weight. Spec for this hitch receiver says tongue weight is 350.
  12. ok...test to see if Fuelly comes across.
  13. I have to clarify the above answer. Lately, my trips have been short city trips in cold Michigan weather. Overall, I would say I am 60% highway (two lane state roads at 55 MPH and freeway going 65 MPH). If anything, I think I get better city mileage once my FFH is warmed up. That, of course, was never true of my ICE only engines in the past. Maybe I don't use my ICE/EV modes the right way on the highway. Cruise (with ECO) does not seem to really help over my manually controlling the throttle.
  14. Yes, to both questions. Some tank fulls have more city than highway miles and short 2-4 mile trips. I did get the PCM update.
  15. Trimming works fine. You do not have to remove the car colored panel below the bumper. I had a hitch installed by U-Haul. I have a Soft Ride 4 bike rack. To slide the rack in and clear the panel you speak of I had to cut a 2 3/8 inch rectangle in that plastic panel. I taped it and used my Dremel cutting disc. The setup works great. I have a Hidden Hitch on my Sienna which is anything but hidden. What I like about this hitch on my FFH is that when my bike rack is off it is hardly visible (only the rectangle I slide my rack into). U-Haul did have to remove a black shield underneath that goes all the way across. It was just collecting mud on the top side of it with no way of getting it out short of removing it anyway. For more info email me please.
  16. I read on another post elsewhere in this forum that the FFH actually computes the gas gauge reading shown on the left hand screen. Apparently it does not use a sender unit like most vehicles. The post stated that due to the shape of the tank that would not be a linear function anyway, which makes sense. If the above is true it would take a little bit perhaps for your car to 'learn' the correct gauge setting. I have found my gauge to be accurate but the amount reported consumed at fill up time on my trip odometer is almost always low by 5%. I would be curious to know if anyone knows if there is a way to change the calibration of fuel consumed. With so much computerized on the FFH I would think it could be adjusted programatically. The Ford dealer did not know.
  17. Thanks, hermans. I am all set up in Fuelly and in the process of transferring my 43 fill ups (by hand). :)
  18. Please help me improve my MPG. I have a 2013 FFH with 16,200 miles and 43 fill ups. My MPG has ranged from 28.3 to 47.6 with my average at 39.3. I was practicing 'hybrid mode' with my 2004 KIA as much as I could while waiting last winter for my new FFH to come in. With over 200 K miles on the KIA I was averaging 25.5 MPG. In 'hybrid mode' I got three tankfuls in a row of 29-30 MPG. I achieved this mainly by watching my acceleration, cruising and braking. I thought that was pretty amazing. EPA sticker was 23/26 for that make and model KIA. Now along came my FFH. I followed the same driving habits that I had been practicing for weeks just watching as to not annoy other drivers. My scores are close to 100 for acceleration and braking and about 95 for cruising. I do try to start out in EV mode because I thought the motor was efficient at most any condition and that the ICE was more efficient over 40 MPH being an Atkinson engine. I understand that is the main reason they do not use the Atkinson engine in non hybrids - because at the low MPH it performs unacceptably. Now I am reading in some posts that perhaps I should not use the EV where I do but should start out in ICE mode more and run in ICE mode more on the freeway at say 60-65 (knowing slower freeway speeds are unsafe, annoying to other drivers and impractical). I live in Michigan so, yes, my MPG takes a hit in winter. I try to leave the HVAC off as much as possible and use the heated seat at the lowest setting and then off (it retains heat well). I do always drive with my headlights on but I understand the watts draw for them is not that high. For over 40 years I have always been able to obtain the EPA numbers for my vehicles. I love my FFH despite the lower than expected gas miage but I still feel i can learn more and improve it. Any thoughts that you have for me would be greatly appreciated. I have found this site to be very useful with courteous, thoughtful people and I am very thankful for that.
  19. Good morning and Happy New Year. Thanks for the reading of this topic and posting to it. It is a good test for me. I am learning my way around here. This might not be the place to ask because it is just practice after all but does anyone know how to enter the Fuelly? Happy New Year. May God's blessing be upon you this year.
  20. Ok. Here I go. This is a test of a post to the new topic which I have created. If you read this please send a post so I can see how interaction works within a topic.

    test over

This is a test reply to 'test over' post. I am practicing here so that I can post accurately to the other Ford Fusion hybrid forums above. Over and out.
