  1. So, I was pretty excited on my last tank, where I hit 618, but decided not to post it because there was a pump malfunction when I filled up afterwards and it said I put 14.25 gallons in. Even though I spent the last 20 miles below 0 DTE, I will never know exactly how my first 600 mile tank really stacked up. (I decided to estimate my fill on Fuelly as 13.25 to be conservative.) But *day-um*. I know how I did this time. The crazy awesome is that I actually was only able to stuff (with my normal 2 extra clicks) 11.86 gallons into the tank. Actual mileage: 54.8. I didn't even get a fuel warning until about 625. I'm beginning to love summertime...

  3. I actually put 14.254 into mine on Saturday. Yes, it was a pump malfunction, but since I was already getting $.90/gallon off for Safeway rewards I figure I still came out ahead. It was pumping *reeeeeeaaaallllyyyy* slowly and it took over 5 minutes to fill up. I complained and the part-time grocery bagger behind the counter put cones up on that pump right after I left. What actually pissed me off the most was it messing up my Fuelly stats. It was my first 600 gallon tank! Yes, I was on fumes, so I estimated 13.254 for the safe of being conservative, but now I'll never know exactly how I *really* did on my first 600!
  4. Used to live in Utah County and go back and forth to Vegas about 4-5 times a year... And now you've got me imagining just how fun it would be to float down the 15 on all of those downhill curves through the Virgin River Gorge from St. George to Mesquite in my FFH. That would be a blast!!!
  5. The only thing I have found difficult to get used to when using the ACC in city traffic is that sometimes it's tracking will have a tendency to "follow" the car in front of you for a little too long after they get out of your lane. For instance if I am behind someone and they pull over into a right turn lane and slow down to make their turn, I will often find my car slamming on the brakes, even though I have plenty of room with no one in front of me. Most of the time now I remember to disengage for a moment when someone in front of me starts to look like they are about to get out of my lane and slow down at the same time or in quick succession, but its still a shock when I forget to disengage and the car hits the brakes hard!
  6. I know. I'm too OCD about it. I just wish the fan didn't have to be on to allow outside air to come in.
  7. This has definitely been a nagging issue for me since I got my 14 HyTi in December, especially since I live in the Seattle area. It hasn't been cold enough at all in Seattle this winter for this expatriate Alaskan to need climate control as long as I have my coat on. I want to leave climate control off altogether, but I am constantly having to turn on the defog. My general practice is that as soon as the fog starts on the windshield, I hit the "fan -" button and then the defog button. This turns defog on at the lowest fan setting. Then once all is clear I hit the power button to turn it all off. For now I have temp set at LO and since outside temps haven't hit 60 yet, I'm hopefully only minimally stealing any heat from the engine. This is probably my biggest beef with the car, no way to VENT. To allow outside air to come on with the fan *off* altogether, and no attempts to control what temperature that air is. I would happily just leave the vent set to point the incoming air at the windshield, which would easily keep the windshield clear and not use any power. It just doesn't seem to be an option.
  8. Okay, so here are my questions about hard resets, because I've been really curious about this for a while. I apologize if this is FAQ, but I haven't stumbled upon any rock solid explanations yet. At the 10,000 foot level: Got my 2014 HyTi in late December with 44 miles on it, and reporting 17(!) MPG lifetime as of that moment. I'm up around 3300 miles now, and my lifetime MPG (preserved on Trip2) is right about 40. Our weather in Western WA, while nothing compared to many of you, has still been largely in the upper 30's and low 40's up until the last couple of weeks. So while that initial 44 miles before I got the car is fairly statistically insignificant now, is that awful 44 miles possibly still influencing my car's performance in a way that only a hard reset could address? At the detailed nitty-gritty level: What data exactly (or as exactly as we know) is being gathered after a hard reset? And what exactly (or as exactly as we know) is being done with that data? What characteristics of the car are being controlled using this data?
  9. I knew that there had to be something. Just wasn't using the right search terms. Thanks for the link! jeffo65 - Like one of the folks in the linked thread, I use my phone for waze navigation.
  10. I hope I am asking this in the right spot... 2014 HyTi here, but I *think* the front dash layout should smiliar enough in most 2013-14 FFH models? I'd like to figure out how to mount my smartphone. There really isn't a place to put it where I can see it or get to it without hassle. Right now it's either pushed under the MFT/climate touchpanel in front of the shifter, or laying on the passenger seat. I want to try to figure out how to do so in a way that doesn't get in the passenger's way, and doesn't block my view or access to the MFT and climate controls--also really don't want to attach anything to the windshield. Has anyone managed a smartphone mount in a way that they're happy with? Got a picture by any chance?
  11. Just an observation, but an eye-opening one for me, especially as this is my first hybrid. I've found myself breaking out of even more "boxes" as time passes. My commute is the best example of this. Most navigation programs will send me to the Interstate to get home. Okay, no. No driving style or MPG savings is going to make up for Northbound I-405 at rush hour. I'd started using waze last summer for navigation. (For those who have to drive in busy traffic often, look into it. Worth it.) This does a pretty good job of acknowledging the obvious. It sends me up a rural highway (Route 9) that is less crowded and about 5 miles shorter of a trip. This was the end-all be-all of trip optimization before December. Freeway, about 24 miles, faster, but only on weekends, Route 9, about 19 miles, shortest possible route and faster any other time. Now, a month into my journey with the FFH, my eyes are opening to a third dimension--elevation! There is a ridge running East-West that I am going to cross no matter which way I go to get home. I'm going to gain about 800 feet and then lose it again somehow, some way in that 18 miles as the crow flies. Well, I discovered a third way home. Route 9 gradually gains that elevation and then has a sharp downhill stretch right before I get home. Now, about two miles into my drive, I make a turn off of Route 9 onto a side street. I'm going the wrong direction--and almost straight uphill, where I can go about 25 and I do my whole elevation gain in about a third of a mile. I then make a turn onto a long, windy, 35 mph road that slowly tapers downhill almost all the way home. But the point is, the shortest possible route to get home is 19 miles. And that is what I used to drive to save both gas and time. Now I'm driving to save gas and relax. I'm on a practically deserted road at rush hour, I go about 21 miles, it takes me 5-10 minutes longer to get there. And what do those two extra miles cost me? About .1 gallons *less* than the shorter route. I feel like I just graduated from Starfleet academy and mastered both time and space. It's a whole new world. Reality though--I've spent several hours looking, and I cannot find a navigation app, either Android or PC based, that will take elevation into account when planning trips. I've found a couple of things that will let you analyze your *own* route to tell you about the elevation (actually found them because of the forum here), but none that will tell you how to get to wherever you are going and minimize elevation changes while doing so. I seriously wish that waze or google had functionality for such a preference when routing instead of simply minimizing time or distance--and it would certainly be cool if a hybrid's built in navigation system had such "eco-routing" capability.
  12. This is a serious bummer. And I've got to think you've got deeper problems going on. First post, 2014 HyTi, purchased 12/17. Came from a 2003 CR-V that got me 197,000 miles without one penny in anything other than gas and regular maintenance. But the CV-joints were starting to go, and I found myself with a nice big down payment seed in December when I refinanced my house. So after I did all of my research, I decided I wanted a Sterling Gray Titanium, and the only options I wanted were ACC and the moonroof. I was going to wait until the tax refund came in, but I found one on the lot nearby in December that was exactly what I wanted except it had Nav too (don't use it as I use waze for all my navigation needs), and was able to work an end-of-year deal that was better than I would have gotten in March, and now I get to keep my tax refund. I'm up to 1500 miles now, and I've had none of the QC issues you mention. I cannot speak to iPhone, unfortunately, but my Galaxy Note 3 has never had a single connection issue. The only oddity that I experience is that it seems to be truly random whether the music in Google Play starts back up again when I get into the car, or whether I have to pull up the app on my phone and hit play. But I have never failed to have it make the connection when I get into the car, and have never failed to see the last song I was listening to show up on the bottom corner of the screen. Not enough of an annoyance to matter, and as soon as Cyanogenmod 11 is official for the Note 3 I plan to upgrade, and expect good things (text message functionality) from the new KitKat Bluetooth stack. Exactly once, this morning in fact, I have thought that I might have had an MFT glitch, when I went from R to D at the bottom of the drive the rear cam disappeared and the screen was just black for a good 5 seconds, but then the normal home screen popped up and all was good. We're obviously spoiled by the fact that our phones have just as much CPU as our PC's anymore, but I have yet to see a fail. I do agree that the changing of audio sources on the sync screen is unfortunate in that BT is far enough down that a screen change is needed between it and the radio. Would be nice to be able to hide unused sources and/or reorder them to our liking. The only physical build quality issue that I've noticed would definitely be the sunglasses holder. The one on my CR-V was flat out solid, whereas this one just feels cheap and flimsy, especially when it is closed, but in my case it has been this exception that has proved the rule--this shocked me because everything else seems to be impeccably solid and laser fitted. I cannot speak to BLIS as I specifically sought to avoid this option--did not want the distraction. In reading the forum I do sometimes look at things people say about it and think it's pretty cool, but ACC is as close as I get to being willing to give up the helm. MPG--let's face it, if you ditch the car, this will be the reason. You can see my fuelly below, and I'm learning, I've been following the tips and my brake score has been improving. I'm in Washington, and it's chilly but not freezing, and I really only use my seat heater on the lowest setting and the front defroster on the lowest fan setting when necessary (which is for about 2 minutes out of every 10 in our humidity). We did have some freezing temperatures, and I have a pretty hilly commute. My fuelly is currently pretty awful. But this tank has been almost night and day--finally got a break in the rain Saturday night after the game (Go Hawks) and took my new digital pressure guage to the gas station. Hadn't checked once since leaving the dealer. Found my two driver's-side tires at 37 and my two passenger-side tires at 35. Brought them all up to 40.5. My hilly commute went from 34-37 to 41-44 overnight. Still learning to drive with an egg under my foot and build muscle memory and ditch 25 years of DILYSI stress, but I feel so much better when I get home at night after relaxing my way home at the speed limit instead of riding bumpers, my wife has even commented on it. I may never get to where hybridbear is, but I used to get about 280-300 miles at the most out of a 16 gallon tank that I rode to fumes. I'm looking at 450-500 miles for this tank, and it's probably going to be about an 11-12 gallon fill. And as the weather improves and I improve it's only going to get better. And I'm driving in style listening to my playlists in Surround? I couldn't be happier. But you've got a completely different situation if you are locked into driving at those kinds of speeds, and yeah, you were misled if they knew that and told you you'd still be getting mid-40's. Side note, I live about 40 miles from my dealer, and because of this forum I learned that at the etis.ford.com site I could find my build date, and found out there that I needed the Customer Satisfaction Program HD radio fix. Hadn't even noticed but sure enough, HD radio was definitely not working right. When I got the postcard last Thursday that my plates were ready, I called and asked them if they could do this at the same time, and made an appointment for this Friday after work to do so. Got the Customer Satisfaction Program letter in the mail from Ford on Monday. Since I'm sure I would have just driven down to get my plates last Friday otherwise, this forum has already saved me one 80-mile round trip to the dealer. Thanks all!
