  1. This evening commute :shift: home (to the gas station by my house actually) with it raining and I started with a very low battery. Not too bad.

This is my trip 1 when I filled up. I actually pumped 10.90 after 2 clicks which Fuelly has as 41.2 mpg average. Either way I'll take it!!

This is my lifetime since I reset it at roughly 5000 miles and it ha been steadily climbing.

    Makes me Happy!! :banvictory:

  2. Another Ruidoso run today. We left the condo and drove to Alamogordo (White sands monument, and the airbase). Got 64 going down (Stopped at Walmart at the bottom and turned off the car for the mileage) and 34 back up (again, stopped at Walmart for the trip home so the computer would start fresh for the return trip) for an average of 49.....

    I love this car!

That's awesome and I totally agree!

  3. Found an interesting article - http://www.greencarreports.com/news/1084852_new-gas-mileage-rules-will-reshape-what-americans-drive-aerodynamics-and-weight and thought I would share it.

I think manufacturers will find unique and appealing designs, just as Ford did with the 2013 Fusion, as we move forward with technology. I think the outside will evolve just as the inside does. What do you think?

  4. When I first got mine I ran the tires at 45 psi and the car drove great (albeit a little rough) and as it got a few miles on it I started getting so good mpg numbers. I drove that way for a good 4000 miles or better and then decided to drop my cold pressure down to 37 and see how it did. The last 3 tanks have now been at 37 psi and I get the same mpg numbers as I had been getting and the ride is much smoother. I will be staying at the 37 mark.

  5. UPDATE!!!!UPDATE!!! UPDATE - I did an entire tank of Gas with absolutely zero HVAC - never touched the button once for an entire tank of gas... mind you this was Tampa Florida (for the people saying... texas and wherever else... yes it was fricking Hotttt, but I had to test it).

With A/C: total miles obtained based on multiple reciepts: apprx 384 per tank = 38.1mpg

With NO HVAC System: total miles obtained based on this reciept: 480.1 for this tank = 48mpg (25% Difference)!!!!

THIS IS REDICULOUS!!!! So, apparently we aren't supposed to use the HVAC to get good mileage.

I usually use my A/C in the afternoon's when the heat and humidity are high. If it is a mild day I won't. The trips I make w/o I will typically get 48-53 mpg depending on where I am going. In the afternoons with it on I get 40-45 again depending where I'm going. Yes there is a 5 mpg window but as we all know there are so many environmental factors that can effect mpg that it does vary. The A/C does drain the battery pretty quick if on full blast so I try to not let it run that high.

Its just as you do with everything and that is you moderate it. No biggie to me.

  6. I hope all of the dads here had a great fathers day!

A couple of good numbers. Drove my son home last night (to his mothers) and had a good mpg trip. At one point approx 3-4 miles in the drive I had like 115 mpg lol :peelout: . The battery was almost full when I left and it was so nice out I turned off climate control and rolled windows down.

This is this mornings commute :shift: . Left the house with temps right at 70, battery almost dead and ICE cold. No A/C and windows down. Had one of those lights change right at that moment when you can't gun it because you will still run a red and so you have to slam on the brakes. Got a 44% score on that one which killed my average  . All of the other stops were 97-100.

I love this car!!! :happy feet:

  7. Quick trip to the grocery store this morning. Left the house temps low 70's a little more than 1/4 charge on battery, no A/C windows down. Funny thing is apparently I used less than .1 gallons on the way there....

Trip back home. Still no A/C battery less than 1/4 and I do believe the grade on the trip home is more up than down lol. Was a little harder keeping it in EV and I am sure the lower battery charge had an effect on that as well.

    I'll take it!

  8. Honestly this car just never ceases to amaze me! i get 50 plus so often on short trips of 5 miles or more I don't even notice anymore. However, we are on a short retirement celebration trip of about 180 miles. We live at an altitude of 5000 feet and we climbed, steadily to 8000 feet of altitude to Ruidoso New Mexico. We got up here at 40 MPG. That is just astounding. Most of it at 65 MPH and about 20 miles at 55. My trip home using another route should be in excess of 50 and possibly 60. I have pictures which I will post as soon as I get the pics out of the camera and will post them here in this post.

I couldn't be happier. Life is good in the Fusion lane ...... :)

That's awesome and I couldn't agree more about the car! It is a real pleasure to drive...

  9. Now this is more like it!!!! :banvictory: Awesome morning today in Middle TN with temp at 63 when I left the house and low humidity. :shift: Cold ICE and battery at 3/4 of a charge. The battery I have found in my experience is key to getting good mpg on any trip. If you start with a good charge you can pull good numbers if you don't then the ICE has to run too much in the beginning to be able to recover the lost energy of driving and charging.

    20130614_073234.jpg :peelout:

Good brake score as well considering all of the stop lights etc..

  10. No pics available, just have to take my word for this: Yesterday, driving under 50, with the air on (90deg outside) at a distance of about 5 miles, got an average for the trip of 59mpg. I know, this isn't news to some, but I was pretty pleased to see. I have gotten around 50mpg a number of times, but 59, and I wasn't even trying really? Great mileage for me.

    Definitely awesome mpg!

  11. This morning's commute, not as good as others. Hot and muggy so A/C was on but not pulling a big draw since it didn't have to cool the cabin down. ICE was cold and battery was less than 1/4 (here is the problem I believe) so the ICE had to kick on right away and not only warm up but charge the battery. I basically recovered from what started out as a 15 mpg reading to 45.8 by the time I got to work. It is very apparent to have a well charged battery when starting the drive and that the short trips we take really kill mpg averages!

    Great brake score however! :shift:

  12. Hmm, I drove 60 miles at 55 MPH with a few drops to 45/35 as I traveled through villages and "only" got 48.8. I don't think my car can do that at 65 (not yet at least). I then drove at 70 MPH and got 40 MPG on that section. Maybe after I get 10k miles I'll start seeing a bump in efficiency, but it'll be a while by the time I get there...

Haha... "Only 48.8" again I find that hilarious that we say that about a 3600 lb car traveling at 65 mph. The best I ever did in my Honda Civic was like 37.something and it lights and probably a little more aerodynamic due to it's shape. Your 1.8 mpg over EPA rating so I'd say that "Only 48.8" you speak of is pretty damn great lol.... I have yet to record that good of mpg traveling that speed for that long of a distance.

  13. I'm going to use this thread to share information about our road trip. I think I'm going to reset Trip 1 when we leave home on Saturday and leave it alone for the duration of the trip and I'll reset Trip 2 each time we buy gas and I'll record the gas stops on Fuelly. I think I'll reset the MPG that are shared across the Empower, Engage etc screens with every 1000 miles to have a longer term fuel economy number than the per tank average on Trip 2 but less than looking at the entire trip MPGs, especially as we get closer to home. I might reset this MPG display more often too, I'm going to play it by ear for this one. Maybe I'll reset it daily to see what our MPGs are for each day of travelling or each day of driving around the city where we're staying visiting family.

Hopefully this will provide valuable real world data for prospective and current owners about what the car can do at highway speeds across different types of terrain and varying temperatures.

Sounds great! I'm sure with your hybrid ninja skills you will do great! Safe travels and as always I look forward to your posts...
