  1. Anyone who is concerned about their MPG, you now have some lead time before this software update comes out -- good idea (for those who do not yet do it) to track your trips and tanks now so you'll have a baseline for comparison.

Great idea Jeff and thanks HybridBear for posting.

This is an interesting concept to raise the tolerances of the system to tax the battery more. It currently drains quickly at highway speeds but will be interesting to see if the reprogramming will alter the mpg noticeably. I'm curious whether it will compromise the overall life of the battery or not.

  2. These statements make sense! The original post stated "Thursday I used it on the FFH which I'd washed 2 days prior and had some bugs and road dust on it.

I used the 303 Speed Detailer when the car was cool, sitting in the garage." I always wash my car before using any detail spray, wax or polish.

Great point ---- that is the perfect time and place to use the Detailer spray. I once made the mistake of using it in a hot car (at a car show)... It set up too quickly and created more of a problem than the fingerprints caused.

  3. If the car needs a wash, wash it. If its just dusty I use a California duster to wipe it down, then go over it with the detailer spray, but if the car got wet at any time between washings, I would wash it first.

I completely agree. If there is a layer of dust, even a thin layer it can be abrasive unless it is washed first with a gentle soap and plenty of water. The California duster is amazing and most Detailer sprays are easy and quick to use. I just picked up the Surf City product to take on my next trip (for the airplane). Really looking forward to trying the 303 Detailer on the cars.

My tip is to make sure that you always use clean microfiber cloths.

I have certain colors for specific uses. (Yellow for final polishing, blue for interior wiping and applying tire gloss, orange for engine cleanup. They are washed together in hot water with NO FABRIC SOFTENER, then gentle dried on a very LIGHT HEAT setting.

I rotate them out once they have been used to make sure that they don't have residue from a prior use.

It may seem picky, but cars aren't cheap and taking care of them has never...ever had a negative impact.

  4. It sure feels good, although I've been waiting for the weather to clear so that we can attempt to set a new coast to coast record in aviation. If you look at the radar there are storms on both sides of the country. We're hoping to take off from Los Angeles next Monday...until then, I'm gonna enjoy the cool evenings here in North Texas.

  5. It's a different type of system from traditional cars in that even when it is "running" at a stop light, the ICE is normally automatically turned off. Since the air conditioner compressor is electric, then it doesn't need the engine to turn a belt in order for it to operate properly. The remote start is just the same function and for the sake of overall gasoline consumption, I wouldn't want it to be doing anything but getting the car ready to drive (which primarily is simply heating or cooling the cabin.)

I love the remote start feature but also think that it is weird that i have to start it again once inside. But hey, if it will keep it from being stolen by some weirdo who is hanging around the car when it starts remotely, I'll gladly live with the hassle factor. We have already tested ours and it can be driven away without the key in the car once it had been started, so this is actually a great safety feature that is worth the extra push of a button.

  6. I think that's why they filmed that Fusion driving off of the cliff. He was using Lane Assist on a curve. ;-)

It's a great feature, but its only a reminder to pay attention. I read an article the other day the Acura is coming out with a system in 2014 that will keep it hands free for up to nine seconds at a time, even ion curves (so they claim). All of what we are seeing with the Fusion is a taste of what the cars of the near future will all have.

  7. Welcome to the forum, and don't worry...noob questions are always encouraged.

The only way to charge the battery is through the regen braking system. Driving with higher RPMs, without your lights on, or by push starting it to get it to move won't help you to increase the charge. As a consequence, your efforts will be to preserve the battery charge as much as possible by using steady pushes on the accelerator pedal as well as anticipating your stops and gaining as much energy as possible.

There is no way to externally charge the battery, but if you go to the "Display" mode on the left side of the instrument panel and select "Engage" you will be able to see how the car uses the gas engine along with the electric motor to keep you moving along with great efficiency.
