This place has changed a bit since I used to hang out here, so I hope I'm in the right place. Anyway... Hi! I don't know if anyone here remembers me, even though I started the most ridiculously long MPG Happy Talk thread way back in the day when we were all waiting for our new Fusions to come off the assembly line. Anyway, I am here to ask recommendations for something to hold my iPhone 6+. I have retired and am now filling up some of my copious free time as an Uber driver. I need to be able to keep my iPhone 6+ within view. What do you have, why do you like it, or not? Thanks in advance. If anyone is still here from back in the day, HELLO! Best, elle

What should we do? Should we trade up for a nicer FFH?
elle replied to hybridbear's topic in Buying, Leasing & Ordering
Hopefully you will not be disappointed. From what I read here, it seems like the vast majority of problems were with the earliest builds. Mine was early, but aside from being a little lower than average on the fuel economy (as compared to many here) it seems to be a wonderful car. I'm seriously thinking of doing something similar to you next year and trading up to a 2014 when they are on clearance.- 96 replies

Can I lock the keys in the car with the car turned on?
elle replied to DarthHobbit's topic in Alarms, Keys & Remote Start
I'll have to try that, because I tried locking with the pad yesterday and it did not work. -
When I get closer to doing something, I may just call my salesperson and ask him to keep his eyes open.

I'll have to try the keypad. Never thought of using that to lock, just to unlock. -
That's the hardest part of this idea, actually. I love the bordeaux, and it's not available anymore. I love a couple of the other colors, too, but the problem would be that I'm at the mercy of what is available if I do this. Not sure I could live and be happy with a sterling gray or silver. Not that those are ugly, but just not my cup of tea.

Yes, and this is an issue for anyone who wants to warm their car up in the morning during cold weather. These running cars are prime targets for theft. I assume the ones with remote start stay locked when the engine starts. I can't imagine the usefulness of this, otherwise. -
Yeah, I think that the biggest reason for me would be the newer build. I'm happy with mine, and doing better with the software upgrade, but I'm still not putting up the numbers consistently that I see others have in their fuelly sigs. It's definitely not a lemon, though-- at least, so far, everything else pretty much functions as it should. I think I may be having a slight tinge of remorse that I didn't wait longer for bugs to be worked out, and I guess I'm hoping that trading up after a year or two will solve that problem-- which perhaps only exists in my mind. I do like the idea of the heated steering wheel, though! Many mornings lately I have wished I had that.

I've had my Fusion for almost a year and I do love it. Let me just start by saying that. However, I'm starting to formulate a plan for buying my next car-- and, if I go through with that plan, it will also be a Fusion Hybrid. Yes, I love it so much that I am thinking about trading up to a newer one in a year or so, and maybe taking advantage of the dealer clear outs next November, like Hybridbear did. So... please point me in the direction of any threads that talk about the differences between the two model years, or we can talk about it here. Cosmetically they seem about the same to me, but I'm sure there must have been some changes. Why would I want a 2014 over my 2013, other than to have a new, shiny thing to play with?

Argh! My dealer is trying to charge me extra!
elle replied to trvlrschick's topic in Buying, Leasing & Ordering
Thanks; I was just curious, as that struck me as so odd when I first moved there :) -
I sure don't miss that road salt!

I am seeing a lot of these trapezoidal grilles lately, and it seems like everyone is rushing to copy the Fusion. I agree with the way the front looks. It seems like you have the standard Toyota grille and then this thing below it that they just stuck on because it was trendy. I don't like it at all.

Just curious-- I am from Maryland and I lived in VA for a while. My recollection is that, in Virginia, you had to pay a yearly property tax on your car. Am I remembering that correctly? If so, do they still have that tax? IIRC Maryland was expensive in some ways, but there were no yearly expenses or property taxes, which made it much cheaper and easier to own a car over the long haul. I think MD initiated emissions inspections after a while, but when I lived there you only had to have a car fully inspected if you were going to sell it-- not so in Virginia. -

Yup, that's what mine did. -
I saw a rare Ginger Ale Fusion the other day in my neighborhood! I won't say anything bad about it, because I know there are people here who like that color. To each his own; I am not one of them.

I tried to do this the other day and could not do it. I think it is a safety feature, or a "don't lock your keys in the car" feature, but it seems kind of silly when we have keyless access, too. -
I'm curious about the thoughts of those who purchased the white platinum paint, since I almost purchased it myself. I've seen several white fusions, but not sure I've seen very many white platinum ones. If you have the white platinum, do you feel it was worth the upcharge? Are you happy with it? Why or why not?

50.6 on the way to work this morning. Can I get an AMEN???
-
Well, it's warmed up here again and I just took a short trip down the street. 45.6. Not bad for the middle of winter!
-
Yup! I've only been here since 2006, but this is by far the worst winter I've experienced in Sacramento. BTW, it looks like I'll have to keep coming back her throughout the winter to keep this thread in its proper place of honor, so that it's ready for us come spring ;)
-
Typical Sacramento winter weather consists of temperatures mainly in the 40s with an occasional brief dip to freezing, but it almost never gets below 33 or so. We might wake up with a bit of frost on the windshield a few days. The past few weeks, though, saw nighttime temperatures in the mid 20's night after night, for about 10 days or so. It killed my grapefruit tree. So, not anywhere like Minnesota temperatures, or even like what I endured when I lived in Philadelphia, but cold enough for here!
-
Yeah, I can see how the onset of winter might dampen the Happy Talk Spirit a bit. Still, it's worth noting that any car will experience a dip in performance when faced with the extra burdens of keeping a cabin and engine warm in very cold weather. So we still should be happy. Actually, I'm more and more happy as time goes by, because I read here and see that my averages are right in line with what many others are experiencing. The software upgrade improved things quite a bit, too. Plus, I get to ride in a nicely heated seat all winter. I have to say that these seats heat up a lot better than the seats in my old Volvo 960 did. I get toasty warm in a hurry, and in the morning I use the passenger side seat heater to keep my breakfast warm after I stop at the drive through on my way to work :)
