  1. Another tidbit - Michelin offers around 12 different tire compounds to the OE customers to chose from, but in the aftermarket they only use 2. So if you have a car that sells in fairly low volume or uses a unique size, you'll likely get leftover OE tires in the aftermarket, but if you have a higher volume car/tire, Michelin will move the aftermarket production to a different plant and use different compounds and construction. The only way to tell for sure what you're getting is to check the DOT codes.

I checked the DOT codes on the Energi & the Focus Electric. They're exactly the same. So it appears that in this case, the two vehicles have exactly the same tires.

  2. Anyone have had Ford Fusion Hybrid "Park Aid" Sensor come on randomly stopped at a Stop sign or stop lights with no cars or obstructions near. This has Just started in last few months, have had vehicle for now 3 years. Dealer at recent maintenance service, could find nothing wrong. I have switch off since sensor alarm is loud and annoying....

Like jsolan, we usually experience this in winter when road salt/spray causes additional build-up on the body of the car.

  3. I was just in for the 50k mile oil change last month and they said the battery tested good, but based on some other peoples experiences, I'm not sure I should trust that.

What kind of test did they do? I really question how thorough the inspection is when you're getting an oil change. I had one experience where I purposely brought the car to the dealer with the windshield washer fluid reservoir basically empty. One of the items on their checklist is to top off washer fluid. When I got the car back I checked to see if they had added washer fluid. The paperwork showed that item was checked off. However, they had not added washer fluid. I got out of the car & mentioned it to the SA. They went back & added washer fluid for me. This experience makes me question everything on those checklists.

  4. However, I do not want to pay for labor if they're already being paid for it via the warranty claim. If someone here can confirm the control arm has to come out to properly perform TSB 15-0174 I will contact the service manager and then Ford if necessary.

You can view the complete TSB here. I reviewed the steps in the workshop manual as referenced in the TSB. Unfortunately, they only provide pictures, no words. Are any of the parts shown below the control arm? I'm not sure where/what the control arm is.

  5. Interesting that all three cars weigh about 3600lbs with the FFH weighing the most yet it has the lowest tire pressure. Still the Michelin Tire Rep said "Even tire wear to get the best tire mileage is what you are trying for". :) :shift:

    Paul

I think the Fusion Energi weighs more than the Fusion Hybrid...

When Ford signs a contract with the tire supplier, they tell the tire company what the tire pressure is going to be, then the tire companies design the tire around that pressure.

Usually what it really comes down to is how close the fuel economy label is to rounding up to the next number. Maybe the Fusion was coming out at 41.6 at 35psi, so it rounds up to 42, but the C-max was 39.4 at 35psi so putting it at 38psi bumped it up to 39.5, so it can round up to 40.

Even tire wear is nice, but it's not everything. The shape of the contact patch and the size of the contact patch are different things. Your higher pressure might be making the patch wider - or even side to side, but it is reducing it's length and reducing the overall size. Simple math, higher pressure = less contact patch area. Less area = less grip, especially in braking.

Thanks for your insights! It's really cool to learn these little tidbits about how the industry works. Many cars come with these same Michelin Energy Saver tires. How do the contracts work in cases like that where many different companies buy the same tires from MIchelin? Or are the tires not actually the same even though they appear to be?

  6. Can you please tell us where you found the "manufactures 38psi rating"? As I indicated earlier the vehicle label on FFHs indicates 35 PSI.

My parents' C-Max Energi door sticker says 38 PSI. The Focus Electric door sticker says 38 PSI. The Fusion Energi door sticker says 35 PSI. All are running the exact same model of tire on the exact same size rims. We keep our tires at about 44-45 PSI at 60 F. Since tire pressure drops about 1 PSI for every 10 F drop in air temp, we run around the 38 PSI door sticker pressure in the winter when traction is reduced by snow/ice & a higher pressure in the summer when dry roads & warm temps yield better driving conditions.

  7. I ought this car brand new with all the bells and whistles. I bought the car for commuting purposes because Ford told me I could get 47 miles per gal. I took it back after 25,000 miles and again at 45,000 miles only to be told give it time. I also received a letter in the mail saying that they owed Med money because they lied about the mileage per gal. I'm still getting 34miles per gallon. Who should I contact at ford to address this?

It sounds like you already got your payment for the MPG issue, that was the end of the matter. Ford paid you for the excess gas you will have to purchase over the life of the vehicle versus if it got 47 MPG as originally certified.

  8. Then they pointed out that the transmission is leaking. While not an inspection item it still has me concerned about the long term quality of the vehicle. I'm assuming the leak is still covered under the powertrain warranty but I won't know for sure until I have a Ford dealer look at it. And will it happen again after the warranty expires?

The eCVT leak should be covered under the 8/100 (or 10/150 in select states) hybrid vehicle components warranty. One owner had 98k miles on his C-Max when he had to have his transmission replaced under warranty.

  9. Hi everyone,

I bought a used 2013 FFH in August 2015 and my 3 year/36,000 mile factory warranty runs out in a few weeks. I have only had one issue with the car - I got the dreaded Wrench Light, apparently, due to software issues which lead to a six night stay at the local Ford dealership. However, nothing has happened since then and there isn't anything wrong with the car as far as I'm aware.

Should I take it in to have a check-up before my warranty expires?

I'd recommend reviewing the TSBs & SSMs posted in that section of the forum. You may find software updates that your car needs. SSM & TSB repairs are usually only "free" to you during the 3/36 b2b warranty.

  10. when I first bought my car, almost two years ago, the coolant level was at max. Now today it has been at the minimum. I have checked it warm and cold and it is the same level. I've brought it into the dealer for many oil changes and they don't top it off and haven't said anything about it. Should I add more? Are they even checking it?

It seems that most dealers don't really check all the things on their checklist that they give you after a service. Have you asked the dealer about the low coolant level? Your car is under warranty so they should take care of it.

  11. Early 2013 FFHs had headliner issues. I believe one FFH owner had so many issues that he ended up suing Ford & receiving a settlement. You can search for some of the old TSBs or threads about the issue. Most owners that had the headliner replaced reported that it was a nightmare because the dealer did a poor job. We had some issues with rattling in our FFH & the dealer broke clips & caused all sorts of problems when they were supposed to be fixing things...
