Dead 12 Volt Battery - 2013 Fusion Hybrid
camelot replied to mrobinso8's topic in Batteries & Charging
Hello and happy holidays to everyone. I owned a 2013 fusion hybrid up until about a year ago. The car went back at least 4 times each for check engine light and going into battery saver mode. Both times it took calls to ford to get it fixed right. The check engine light ended up being a canister purge valve. And the battery saver mode was 2 bad batteries. The first one was replaced after 2 mos. What the dealer ended up doing for the second was as he put it" burn off the surface charge" then test it. It failed. They then replaced the 2nd battery that had been tested twice and passed. Again a case was started and a lemon law threat. I ran the car for close to a year and a half didn't have anymore problems. In December of 2013 I bought my wife a new c-max that sat on a lot for 2 mos. They drove it 80 miles to the dealer in my area. It sat in the garage for at least a month as my wife broke her wrist and it started fine. We've had the car since dec 2013 and have had absolutely no problems with it. Recalled once for a computer recalibration or something. My son now has the Fusion and has not called me about any problems. Which I'm sure he'd let me hear about! So good luck guys and be persistant . The mileage is worth it. Best tank was 505.1 total ev 246.9 on 10.66 gals. 47.3 mpg. It was a daily commute of 20 miles in the spring no a/c of course. Great car! Cmax is also Yes low fuel light came on.- 276 replies

ell got the car back today. Another battery....Seems it failed the second time it was tested. they removed the surface charge to avoid a false reading and it showed the underlying failure. Hope that was it. Time will tell. This was the second battery since new. It lasted 8 mos. Hope this one didn't come out of that batch again.

Mine always starts also. But going into bs mode continuously makes you leary that one day it won't start.
-
When mine go out I just hold the button up or down for which ever fails for about a second or two after it stops and I hear a very faint click. It seems to come from the door I'm resetting. It then works aftr that. Not all of my windows loose the one touch together. Definitely seems to happen due to bs mode.

Well my car is currently back for the 4th time since new for the bs mode in 13mos. For those that say theirs is fixed, have you changed your driving distances? I had a 44mile round trip commute last summer and had no problems after new battery install. I now have a 16 mile round trip commute and am back in bs mode. The car sat in the garage for 2-3 weeks WITH an occasional start and 20 min run to keep the battery up, but was no use. The wifes new CMAX was in there and got the same starting due to her broken wrist and did not have any issues. With winter here I drove my f250. This is strange and sometimes wonder if the dc to dc coverter fails to come on line from time to time for short trips and frequent starts. How would we know if we don't have a dvm plugged ito the 12v outlet? I'm looking to get one like I see someone has here. At least we would see an increase in voltage when it comes on line. A short 10-15 min trip might be enough to drain the lvb to bs limit.

Communication is key. Tsb's should be read when they come out. It just might ring a bell when the problem rises.

Seems every time I get the car back from the dealer I get the BS alert. But a few days of driving and it goes away. It seems like the dc to dc converter isn't putting out enough to maintain that small battery with a full load on. They have to do something about this. I'm on second battery and 2 times back to dealer for it. I guess if you leave the ignition on it should keep it up. Amp output should at least match load.

They told me they found the canister purge valve stuck. Hotline told them to change it. Time will tell. Thanks to all for your support. These forums are so much help and informational.

Fuel pump continues running 15 minutes after turning car off?

Ditto, great research! Now I see why they are having so much trouble with my evap system.! -
Thank you Ashley! Received a call today but was at work. Dealership has been in touch with hot line. Thank you for your help. Have a great day!

Got a call late yesterday. I remember the service manager saying something about a recorder. We'll see what he says when I call him today. Must be kinda like what Dr's do for your heart. Make you walk around with a recorder to see what your heart does during the day.

Same here 3 times and no code but get told its evap code. Its in Ashley's hands now. Service manager is trying and is apologetic. Ct lemon law is 4 "attempts at same problem"

Thanks everyone. Pm'd and am hoping for the best. Service manager is a nice guy and trying.

Got my car back after a couple of days. Tech checked for codes and work order says it had quite a few "U" codes. The battery was charged for 2 hrs and tested again and failed. WO also mentions "no pinpoint tests in manual yet" They replaced the battery and kept it overnight once more. Time will tell I guess. Car seems the same so far. Mileage matches a few short trips I usually take. A few 20 mile commutes to work will tell the truth though.
