  1. Some of you may remember me from "back in the day"... I've been around these forums on and off for quite a few years now....

Very happy to say that although I recently had a really bad setback with a dead battery issue on my Sylvia ('13 FFH), and was even on the brink of letting her go for a Nissan Leaf (could not make a deal- they wanted too much), after the latest trip to the dealership.. I think they finally fixed the issue!!!

Reason I say that is.. my hybrid battery was not flatlined first thing in the morning like it has been for the last several weeks...

So looks like I'll be staying with my girl.. and visiting these forums from time to time.. I hope and pray I can get another several great years out of my Sylvia..

Take care and see ya around.

    Coach

  2. Oh well.. so much for that... The dealership I went to in New Orleans (Premier Nissan) was a complete waste of time...

Offered me 13K for my FFH (I wanted 14,500 at least)

Then offered 28,500 for an SV (I said 27,000 without incentives)

At this point the "salesman" said- "What incentives?"

He went back to the sales manager and then came back and said "Oh the manager said he already gave you all those incentives to get to the 28,500...

I thanked him for his time, and walked out...

Praying to God Sylvia has somehow been healed and I can drive her for another 100K miles or so..!!!!

  3. Well I'm going to go pick up my Sylvia from the dealership today, then after practice I'm headed to the Nissan dealership to see if they will accept my terms for a trade and price on the '16 Leaf SV.

I have to tell you, I am sad to be saying goodbye to my Sylvia.. she was THE BEST car I have ever owned by far. She looked absolutely great, she drove like a dream for over 3 years, and her technology was second to none.. but she simply can't be trusted to start anymore, and the dealership seems clueless on how to fix her...

This latest "wire module fix" doesn't make me feel to confident, I just see this as an ongoing issue (been over a month now with at least 3 weeks in the shop), and then perhaps an expensive issue as the warranty will expire.

But if the Nissan dealership asks too much for the Leaf (I'm really going to low-ball them), I will certainly stay with Sylvia and pray for a miracle to heal her!!!

Thanks to all my fellow FFH pals over these last few years for all the help and fun times. I'll let you all know how it turns out...

    -Coach

  4.

A co-worker of mine has one of those, and is frustrated at watching the battery degradation as has been the common frustration for other Leaf owners.

So you could always transition to a Fusion Energi which is probably good for your needs and there are good deals on those now (I had one of those for 2 years, wife has had one for over 3 years), or a Chevy Volt (I have one of those now) and that may also work for you -- I drive a lot of miles and have had the Volt for 10 months and 32k miles and still on 3/4 tank of gas from delivery last year.

Problem with the volt is I will not be able to deal for it.. It will be another car note... and I'm hoping the Nissan quality will be better???

  5. I test drove a new Leaf last summer in SW Florida. The car was heat-soaked and I drove it 7 miles on local streets and the interstate. It was a very competent car and nice to drive. The AC was powerful. It used 10 miles of battery range in that 7 mile drive but that's not surprising with the heat. They improved the HVB chemistry, I believe in 2015, but it's still not actively cooled. Early used Leaf's are way below $10k and they have a HVB replacement for about $5+K. Their sales have tanked with the Tesla Model 3 introduction.

Going test drive one today... Sales have tanked = hopefully get a deal for a new one for close to nothing w FFH trade in???

Update on Sylvia- they told me they changed a "wire module" and I might be able to pick it up Monday.. well over a week now without my car... *sigh*

  6. Exactly correct DeeCee.. I was gone as my car was absolutely FANTASTIC... until now... I am extremely heartbroken.. and frustrated.. my car is still at the dealership...

Wondering if maybe I should take it to a Nissan dealership and "swap it out" for a '16 Leaf?????

So scared that this will just continue.. and it will start costing me.. BIGTIME....

BTW there was no explanation of the "water in the connector"

  7.

So is there a pattern to it related to how you use the car (e.g., it goes dead if the car sits for several days)? Did they give you any info on things like parasitic losses or the charging subsystem tests they ran?

If the car goes dead after several days of non-use, the issue is likely a component that doesn't turn off or go to sleep, e.g. a bad body control module. If it randomly goes bad with daily use, the more likely fault is with the low voltage charging part of the system. In any case, a tech skilled at diagnosis is needed. Hope you find one - they seem to be a rare breed.

Hey Coach welcome back... if they've already replaced the 12V battery then obviously there's still something draining it that didn't used to be there - this brought to mind one of the Special Service Messages that GrySql posted a while back, and I think someone wrote that they too had a 12V battery go bad and the cause was fixed by the below -- so if your car gives some of the trouble codes noted in the below linked SSM, maybe this is a player. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Thanks guys... my car has been in the shop now for 4 days.. got a call from "eric" yesterday, he said he found water in one of the connectors under my drivers seat, and that he drained it, sealed it..etc.. he thinks that maybe it was causing my dash lights to come on and drain the battery.. he will keep it a few more days and see if it helps.

It will run for a few days, then die.. this is round 5 I think of the same issue. My car rarely sits for more than a day... doesn't seem to matter.. I also noticed that I would park it at night with a half or nearly half full indicator of my hybrid battery, then the next morning it would have to run the ICE right away as the battery was all the way empty.. told the tech this...

    I shall wait and see...

  8. Been having more and more problems with my beautiful Sylvia being DEAD. Started about a month ago... been to the dealership at least SIX times so far for it.

    1. Paid $160.00 for a new battery, did not do anything.. car still dead every week or so..

    2. She is as of this morning back at dealership... still no clue what's the problem

    3. Have an official case number with Ford Customer satisfaction.. the representative told me they have been having problems with the other Hybrids and dead battery issues.

Any suggestions???? Tired of my car dying every other day!!!!

  9. This past weekend we took Sylvia out for her first real extended trip. We made a trip up to Tenn to see some good friends. With the AC set to auto 72 degrees the entire time, and the eco cruise set between 75-78 mph.. here were the results:

Best tank- with half of the tank still from driving around here- 43 MPG

Worst tank- almost the entire tank spent on the interstate nearly 80 mpg, and then up and down hills of Tenn- 38 MPG

Overall.. pretty decent numbers I would say....

  10. No Coach, I'm trying to figure out your street address so I can steal that car

    I am so jealous.

LOL.. thanks man.. I love it also!!! BTW.. I'm closing in on another mid to high 40 tank... even in June!!!!

He might not have, but I did! :) Coach, he has the strongest players and team members around, he trains them with his Hybrid!

I LOL Hope your doing good Coach, glad to see you posting again.

I'm doing great, Acdii.. I hope are as well!!! Thanks!
