Stop safely NOW

Driving in the middle lane of 6 lanes on I-95 in Baltimore yesterday I suddenly got the red flashing message, Stop Safely Now. As the message flashed the car lost power and the check engine light came on. I was able to get to the berm, turned the car off and restarted. I was able to drive the car to my appointment and home again.

 

When I returned to town last night I dropped it off at the dealer. This, I believe in the recall for the PCM. Since the recall came out I've checked with the dealer at least 6 times about getting recall work done, only to be repeatedly told, "we don't have the part." We will see how long this takes.

I'd like to know why your car failed like that...

SSN messages should store a proprietary code that Ford can read via the IDS laptop. The Focus Electric seems to be plagued with this issue at a fairly high rate due to issues with high voltage battery harnesses/wiring. We got the SSN message a few times in the black FFH. The dealer was directed by Ford to replace the PCM when this happened.

I had already had the PCM update done (on both cars) about 2 months ago. Stopped at the dealer this AM and they said it may be a couple of days before they can look at it. We will see. I don't need a loaner as I have several cars I can drive. This surprised me. They have 3 hybrid mechanics.

Your first post references the PCM which is probably what led to GrySql's post. Did you maybe mean RCM? That's the recall with limited parts.

Well I would really like for some kind of light to come on in mine so they can diagnose why the Regen braking is acting strange. Without it, they give me the "You're driving it wrong idiot" look. They wont look at it until the 15th, and it felt as if he were reluctant to even do that.

Picked up the car this AM. They did the recall on the RCM. They also once again applied the TSB # 13-7-11 which reprogrammed the pcm, becm and sobdm.

This is not the first thread I've seen that seems to show that while supplies of the new-&-improved RCMs are not yet avalable to replace on all recall-affected cars, that they are able to get the part to symptom-affected cars pretty quickly instead of the 4-5 weeks or whatever it was that we saw last Fall right around when the recall was issued.

This just happened to me today. Luckily, I was in my driveway just moving the car after mowing the lawn. Won't start. Tried everything. Dealer in the morning.

Happened to me last night in my new 2016 Fusion Hybrid :-(

 

I've had the car less then two weeks and it's a replacement from Ford for my defective Focus Electric that was plagued with the same problem and spent over a month in the shop. Disappointing to say the least that Ford has so many problems with the newer cars and the nice technology related to them.

The reason I asked is some of the cheaper bluetooth scan tools were not designed properly and can corrupt the OBD bus that the car uses for its modules to communicate with each other. That can lead to all kinds of bogus problems. A failing module in the car can cause the same problem.

If electronics within a car are going to fail they commonly do it very early in their life while still covered under warranty. It is frustrating but once they isolate the problem and replace the failing module it will hopefully not fail again. These cars are very complex and I am amazed that many/most of them work reliably from day one with no problems at all.

Had this in less than 2 months after I bought the car in 2017. Towed to the dealer. Now started to have it again... Cross finger each time it arrives that I will be able to start it again. So yes, even if they thought that they fixed it then (in 2017), it started again...

This is why we need more trains, not more cars electric or otherwise.  6 lanes is just insanity.  Freeways and roads are incredibly expensive and inefficient.


One time a few days after driving back from North Carolina I got a drive train error message.  I went to the fusion forum and received no help except from one person who said they received it too and that it went away and never returned.  Same thing happened with me. 40,000 miles later still never seen it again.  I have had fuel filler errors and fixed it using the trick where you plunge the funnel into the filler neck.  I once got a trunk ajar error but it was caused by a reusable grocery bag strap caught in between.  This car has TOO MANY SENSORS and I am really nervous about when it gets old. I still have my 99 Ford and am sad it is getting rusty as I had very few problems with it and it was so fun and easy to work on myself.

2012 FFH

I have the same problem of SSN (Stop Safely Now). I have found MEC pump did not work and have replaced it. The problem is not solved. The SSN happens after driving on high way at speed 65+ mph about 30 minutes. Can key off/on and drive a short distance before it does it again. If speed is below 50 mph on a local road then I can drive car home without SSN problem. Before replacing the MEC pump, SSN happens even at speed of 50 mph. Yesterday, I did key off/on to drive after SSN, the display shows an orange wrench warning that did not show before I replaced the MEC pump. My cheap OBD-II reader finds no code.

Any help would be appreciated.

HELP !?!?!?!?!?! ......... Requesting help from someone at FORD to help me resolve this issue please!  I have a 2012 Ford Fusion Hybrid and received the "STOP SAFELY NOW" message for the first time ever on 18NOV21 during highway driving at 65-70mph.  The message appeared along the left hand side of my primary instrument display.  When the message appeared, the car immediately began to lose power, although it seemed like I was getting some assist from the EV battery as my speed dropped.  Fortunately, I was able exit the highway and pull into a parking lot.  I turned the vehicle off, Googled the SSN message and found this and other forums where various causes were being discussed.  I turned the car back on and was able to continue driving it back home without the message reappearing. 

 

The next day, I took the car to my FORD dealer and they checked for any stored error codes which might help pinpoint the issue, but they found nothing.  Some of the posts indicated that the issue might be with the PCM (Power Control Module?) and others indicated that the issue required a software update.  My local dealer did review all recalls on this Fusion Hybrid model and found one related to the PSCM (Power Steering Control Module), saying that FORD offers a 1-time replacement at no cost within 10-years of 150K miles.  While I have only 69K miles on the car, it seems that I am about 3-month past the 10-year date.  The local dealer is telling me that if the PSCM replacement is needed, it is a $2000+ repair...... YIKES !!!!!! 

 

Does anyone else have this issue and if so, how did you resolve it?  Can someone from FORD chime in to offer any assistance?  Seems so unfair that just 3-months past the 10-year cutoff means I'm facing a $2000+ repair bill for a vehicle that has been superbly well maintained and has not given me any other problems.  HELP !?!?!?!?!?!
