QNX, Android Auto or CarPlay in your next FFH?

Recommended Posts

Thanks for sharing. Interesting article.

I think it's true that most frustration with voice commands is not being able to speak normally. I've had minimal issues learning the appropriate Sync commands for what I want to do and it's been months since the last time that Sync hasn't understood me. That said, it would be nice to have better integration between phone & dash.

I also noticed the comment about map upgrade costs. That's been a hot-button issue here for some owners.

Looks like the QNX based system won't be in the 2016 models, at least not in early production. I'm guessing it won't be available until MY 17, not based on any knowledge I have of it, just a guess. It hasn't been all that long since Ford announced they were dropping Microsoft and setting up a whole new system for integration/testing and production is surely going to take a while. I wouldn't think that Ford would want to switch in the middle of a given year production run, hence my guess for the '17 models if it's ready by this time next year to go into production. Right now we're only a little over a month away from MY 16 Job 1 (Apr 6) so I'm quite sure it's too late for MY16. IMHO :)

This quote from the article referred to above I found to be a little ambitious:

"One of the most widespread adopters will be Ford, which this year will begin offering both Android Auto and CarPlay in conjunction with the revamping of the automaker’s much-criticized Sync system. By the end of 2016, they will be available on all Fords sold in the United States."

Or maybe, the hardware will be there and the operating system will have to be added for either the Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. I guess we'll see just what Ford ends up doing, but I'm not holding my breath! Like HB said above though, it would be nice to not have to pay for Map Updates!
