And it was quite obviously running Android though there was no mention of Android Auto anywhere in the Ford booth.

How can you tell? I thought Ford made an official statement that they are going with QNX on Sync 3 !?

I could be just stupid, but with the color scheme and the way it looked and felt, it looked just like android. It looked nothing like the spy shots we've seen of Sync3. Could be that Ford has thrown out a Red Herring and all of us will be surprised.

Not holding breath on this. We have had this promise of Applink for years now, and still only base model cars have it.

What do you mean by base model cars? Are you refering to Fusions without MFT?

I saw a video of Sync 3 and glad it is coming out but at the same time, very remorseful. All I am looking for is a few apps for Sync 2. That's it! I am getting a bad feeling that Sync 2 is going to be left in the dust and will not be compatible of getting an upgrade.....

The relationship with Microsoft and Ford is odd at this point, They just announced that Forza 6's (Driving video game by Microsoft Studios) Cover car is the New Ford GT. But the new Sync 3 will be running QNX and I'm guessing as a result not developed by Microsoft. I wonder if any Microsoft developed Sync systems will see any more updates at this point now.

Guess we will just have to wait and see.

Microsoft didn't develop Sync. Microsoft supplied the operating system that Sync runs on.

And then Microsoft was contracted by Ford to redo the software since the initial provider (Bsquare - which was started by a bunch of ex-Microsoft employees) screwed it up so badly.

But that matters not with regards to future updates, since I don't think there's any technical reason that one couldn't run the QNX operating system on the current hardware. It's just a matter of spending the money to write the software.
