It's always better to use consistent terminology - what you're referring to is called "Sync with MyFord Touch." AppLink is a feature that's currently available on many Ford cars without MyFord Touch, and will presumably be available on cars equipped with the new Sync 3. What's unclear to me in this article, is if it only applies to AppLink with Sync 3, or if it's backwards compatible to cars with the current AppLink feature.
